I have Jotunheim 2, topping D70 (bought 2019), Monolith 887 THX. I have HD6XX and Audeze LCD-2 headphones. It's hard to believe but the LCD-2 brings out qualities of the D10 Balanced connected to the Jotunheim 2 that the D70 does not. Not sure what is going on but the D10B seems to have more detail than the D70. The D10B plays with the frequencies better. I have had the D70 long enough to know it. As soon as I plugged the Jotunheim 2 into the D10B, I noticed a difference. I realize I'm supposed to notice a difference but I do.I have the Jotunheim 2 connect to the D70 and playing through the HD6XX. I got the LCD-2 and immediately noticed the difference between the two headphones. I got the D10B to plug into my laptop and plug into my RXV385 receiver. I decided to play around with components and see if there were any differences. Stubble differences but there are slight differences. I wish I had not spent the 500 for the D70. That said, The chips today were not around in 2019. The D10B is a great DAC. Compared to the D70 it holds up in quality. ESS chips are slightly different than AK chips. Sensitive headphones and IEMs can bring these out. Certain headphones sound a little different on different amps as well. I must say, while I'm not totally blown away, I do like the D10B connected to the Jotunheim 2 over the D70. With the LCD-2 I here stubble differences in detail. The D10B is a very good DAC and well worth the money. You can use as a bridge for a laptop into a receiver, or another DAC. Plus, it only needs a USB to power it! No wall wart or extra cord. Just plug D10B into USB, balanced into Amp and you are done. Awesome little DAC that can go toe to toe with a 500 dollar D70.

I've been buying and flipping personal hifi gear for 15 years. I've owned $1K plus multi-bit DACs, $2K+ headphones and amps, etc. So I know how top quality gear sounds and performs. I've become a huge Schiit fan for amps and DACs, and a Sennheiser headphone fanatic for the value when it comes to costs-vs-performance. I recently picked up a Schiit Ragnarok class A/B amp on Ebay for a great price. I wanted something to drive a pair of JBL pro tower speakers. But the Ragnarok is a pure amp. No internal DAC. But it does have two balanced XLR inputs. So I needed a balanced external DAC to feed this beast of an amp. Enter the Topping D10 balanced USB DAC, which I picked up on Amazon for under $125 on sale. The next available balanced DACs on the market started at $225. Just didn't want to commit to that much and bought the Topping D10 purely on reviews. And boy am I glad I did!! This little beauty is so simple. It can be powered by my Pixel 6 USB-C to USB-B connection into the D10. And provides a nice bright and simple digital signal value. So you know your sample rate at any time. But the real value here is the D10 balanced output, into my Ragnarok. I spaced my tower speakers L/R about 25 feet apart. And then throttled up Ragnarok. Wow, oh wow! The D10 cranks out an incredibly spatial and neutral sound! I cranked up some Muddy Waters and Keb Mo and it sounds like they are sitting right in front of me, with the instrument L/R separation that is mind blowing. I'm simply blown away that this is a $125 balanced DAC! Which is just like my headline suggests ... value, value, and more value! It's as good as the Schiit $800 DAC I used to own. And I don't say that lightly. Thanks Topping!
