This pump is close to being my favorite small pump, but it just doesn't quite make it.The pressure gauge is super useful, and the pump itself isn't so slow at pumping that you'd never want to use it.The problems arise when it comes to using them with my main two bikes, which both have presta valves. This pump uses a screw on design, rather than the push on design found on a lot of other pumps. This in itself isn't an issue, but it means it requires a separate (included with the pump) adapter for presta valves. Again, this isn't an issue... or it shouldn't be. Unfortunately, the adapter that is included for some reason does not work with the presta valves on either of my bikes. No matter how much I tighten it down onto both the pump end and the valve end, it never actually opens the valves, making it entirely useless for these bikes.Another thing to note, if your bike has a wider tube for the bottom where you would mount this pump, you may have to place washers below the mount in order to create clearance from the frame. Also, watch to make sure your cranks/pedals will even clear the pump... On my road bike, the pump gets clipped slightly with every rotation.

My shop pump uses a screw-on adapter instead of the traditional lever, and I find it is much more accurate, and it doesn’t lose air pressure when you unscrew it. Not so with most lever adapters. For rides I take a spare tube, repair kit, 2 CO2 cartridges, and a Portland Designs Shiny Object inflator. Air pressure is based on the tried and true thumb test. And if I get more than 2 flats I figure it’s bad karma and phone home for a ride.I ordered this CXWXC mini pump with pressure gauge mostly out of curiosity, and because you can never have too much bike gear. I also thought that it might be a good replacement for my Topeak hand pump I have on my mountain bike that I never ride. Turns it, I really like this little pump, although I’m still not sure exactly what I’m going to do with it.Pros:Aluminum body is very strong and durableScrew-on adapterGreat build qualityBuilt in pressure gaugeEasy to switch from Presta to SchraderPretty lightweight at about 163g (5 3/4oz) including mounting hardwareHome attaches to base so it doesn’t flop around on ridesCons:Each time you pump only adds a tiny amount of air. Getting this thing to inflate a 100+ PSI road tube is a herculean effortPressure gauge seems less accurate at lower pressuresThis is a two-hand pump only. Base can’t be anchored to the ground with your footPump is designed to use the water bottle mount. Not optimal if you need two bottle cagesIf you’re a roadie, I'd recommend sticking with CO2 inflators. If you’re riding mountain bikes, you may want more volume than this pump offers. The sweet spot for the CXWXC may be touring, cross, or townie bikes. I’m going to rate this 5 stars (excellent), because as long as you know the pros and cons, and think that this will work for you, the quality and the price make this a great pump.

The CXWXC Bike Pump is a fantastic portable bike pump. So far it works great and is really low profile when mounted to the bike. My mountain bike had a low tire from my last bike ride (and my electric pump had lost its charge), so I was able to test this immediately. The tire takes 55psi, and the gauge on the old hand pump that I had wouldn’t go that high so it was all guesswork. The gauge on this pump handles up to 120psi! I was really happy to see that. No issues with the gauge accuracy that I could discern. The pump has a mounting bracket that fits on my mountain bicycle frame. The bracket is thin enough that I can mount it using the same holes that my water bottle bracket uses. The pump bracket mounts off to the side, so they fit together well. It is great to be able to mount a pump on the frame so you always have it with you. The pumps weighs only 157 grams. The pump can handle both Presta and Schrader valves, which is really helpful. My bikes use only the Presta valves, but I have some friends whose bikes have Schrader valves, so I will be able to help them out if needed.I’m pretty satisfied with this pump so far and I’m glad I got it.

This is a great little pump because of three features, the flexible hose, the ability to pump-up both Schrader and Presta valves, and the attached pressure gauge. Being able to be on the road and knowing I can not only pump-up my tires, but those of any other bicyclist, and get it to the correct psi range without guessing is a nice feature to have. I used it to top-off my tires, and the screw-on feature is great because it means less air escapes when disconnecting it than on pumps with flip-up locking levers.Pros:- Hose with two valve style openings allows you to quickly pump-up either Schrader valves or Presta Valves.- Flexible Swiveling 9-Inch hose allows for easy reach to valves and means you don’t have to align the pump perpendicular to the valve stem and you don’t have to squat awkwardly to pump up your tires.- Hose has metal connections that screw-on to the valve stem, so there is no chance of it coming loose when pumping up a tire.- Very compact at just over 11-inches collapsed but extends to 17-inches when in use.- Long 6-inch stroke means fewer pumps to inflate your tires.- Velcro retention strap for added security to prevent the pump from being knocked out of the cradle.- Offset cradle mount means it won’t take up a water bottle cage slot on your frame. You can mount a cage on top of this cradle.Cons:- There is no grab-handle that swivels perpendicular to the pumping shaft, there’s just a small protrusion that the manufacturer refers to as the Ergonomic Non-Slip Handle. The handle is pretty small, and on my other bike pumps the handles have a swing-out feature is incredibly useful and makes pumping more comfortable.- The pressure gauge, although a terrific feature, is somewhat small and not completely accurate. I found it to be more than 5psi off from my calibrated floor pump, and it only properly registers a reading during a stroke.Despite my nitpicks, this is still a great portable little pump that is so much more useful than the portable economy pumps typically sold at big box stores and bike shops.

The pump looks good; the metal parts are nicely machined and the design of the part that twists onto the valve is clever. Unfortunately, the pump has to many flaws to recommend. The reason I gave it two stars is because the pressure gauge is easy to read and nice to have on a portable pump and the pump would work in a pinch. Now for the cons. I don't mind valve connections that twist on but with this pump, the user experience isn't great, and it is difficult to get the pump twisted onto a Presta valve and I'm worries it is likely to break the value if used frequently. The pump is also very slow and difficult to pump. It took about 75 pumps to get my 700x35 tire from 20 psi to 40 psi. and when you are at 40 psi, it takes a lot of effort to keep pumping. I wouldn't want to try to get a tire past 50 psi with this pump. Finally, the pump comes with a bracket to mount to the bike frame, but it is too bulky to practically mount in this way because it will either interfere with the crank or you will be likely to kick is while pedaling. Therefore, if you plan to bring this pump on a ride, you will need to keep it in a backpack or pannier. given all the drawbacks, with this pump, I can't recommend it.
