Generally I've found that Waveshare has really good documentation but the docs for this board are a bit challenging to understand and the tutorial process involves downloading several different exe files which is always a little nerve racking. I give them credit for the effort, the board is feature rich and very flexible and part of the challenge is covering all the different options. But documentation and tools are translated to English which can make understanding what you're doing a lot harder as something are confusingly worded. When it comes down to it, it's as simple as plugging this into your router and accessing the web interface at a local IP in your browser and changing the parameters there. One problem is that this IP defaults to 192.168.1 subnet which may not be the subnet your router is running on. Mine for example runs on 192.168.50 meaning I could not directly access the web interface. The solution is to simply change your computers IP address temporarily to an address in the 192.168.1 subnet, access the webpage, then update the devices IP to to the correct subnet. Swap your PC back to the right net and you can now access the web config over the router. From there sending messages back with the test tools in the tutorial is fairly easy. The problem I faced was that even when doing the steps above I was not getting a response from the device. I could not access the web configuration and pushing changes through the Vircom exe they have you download also didn't seem to persist on the device. When checking the hardware I had no activity on the Link LED, tried multiple cables, ports and nothing.I suspected I might have a dead RJ45 port so I emailed support. They were quick to respond with the basic tier 1 stuff, try another cable, different switch etc. I had already tried all that so I responded back saying it was still not working. This was a holiday weekend so it took several days to get another response but eventually they told me to perform a factory reset by shorting DEF and GND pins.I will admit I was extremely skeptical that this would work because I was getting no action on the link light and this didn't seem like it would fix that. Happy to say I was wrong and after shorting the pins and plugging back in I immediately had activity on the link LED. Went back to the tutorial steps above and was instantly able to access the web configuration which made it all pretty easy from there out.Once running this is a really cool board. It supports several different protocols and basically all conversion happens at the hardware level so you can treat this as a Serial device and it abstracts the protocols at the hardware level bi-directionally. Really cool stuff once you figure it all out.

This Waveshare TTL UART to Ethernet module is a compact and powerful tool. I'm using it to connect a serial device to my network, and it works flawlessly. The small size and castellated holes make it easy to integrate into my project, and the immersion gold design ensures reliable connections. However, I did run into one major issue: the lack of documentation. While the module itself is well-designed, the available documentation is sparse and difficult to navigate. I spent a lot of time searching for clear instructions and examples, which was frustrating. Despite the documentation issues, I was able to get the module working thanks to some online resources and community forums. It's a powerful tool with a lot of potential, but it would be much more user-friendly with improved documentation.

Ich nutze es für mein Arduino Board. Ich messe damit die Temperatur und Luftfeuchtigkeit in meinem Home Gewächshaus. Welche dann via ethernet an mein PC gesendet wird und ausgewertet wird. Klappt soweit wunderbar.
