Haven’t tried painting them as of yet but with the pattern of indentations limits what you paint on them since it’s not a flat surface.I tried to return but it was going to cost 7.99 to have it picked up so I’m keeping it. I rarely am satisfied with my purchases thru Amazon. Will stick to Wal Mart or even e bay as they take care of issues much better.I will try to contact Amazon but seems hard to get a person and who knows if they will approve a free pick up. Also the mugs are not ergonomic. You can’t fit 3 fingers in the handle. Will look for a different painting set elsewhere. It is not good for a mug you might want to treasure if someone special paints it I suggest getting it from a different place.
