Love my scanner. The hardware has been flawless. The software is what really makes this a great product. It simplifies the scanning process significantly. I have scanned several things around the house and used the meshes to design custom mounting brackets that I then 3d printed.

The arrival of affordable consumer oriented and priced 3D scanners like the Revopoint RANGE 2 3D Scanner, driven in no small part by the rise of 3D printing, has helped me realize a long held ambition, to make 3D scans of art works and architectural details with the hope that the scans might be used to output actual objects for future projects. The technology is really impressive. In the past this type of capability was very expensive and found only in industry and cinema special effects houses. That put it out of reach for most average users. You have to give Revopoint credit for creating a range of affordable 3D capture devices and software that interface with either a computer or smart phone. Setup was straight forward. Install RevoScan software, on your PC, Android or iOS device, decide whether to use a cable or WiFi to link the scanner and the software, and scan. Of course, it's more complicated than that once you get to the actual scanning part. The biggest issue, other than perfecting your stability and technique for hand holding the scanner for capture, or using a turntable for small objects, is finding a place to do the scan where the object to be scanned has no other objects near it, or in the near background. That can sometimes be difficult to arrange if you don't have an empty room space or if the object is installed in an environment you can't control. There are a number of issues of course with perspective and capturing tops and bottoms of things. One other issue, covered by Revopoint in a helpful video, is that featureless objects like spheres, boxes, balls, etc and objects with shiny or reflective surfaces can confuse the scanner and software and have to be ornamented with target stickers to give the scanner dimensional points to create a usable grid and mesh out of. The software can output both STL, PLY, & OBJ files. You should have a good grip on your final output needs before picking which one to use. The scanner has a max distance to object of about fifty-one inches.I am blown away and impressed by this tool being available for under $800.00. I am making progress on my early days scanning of test objects. Now I have to work on the real world 3D object creation from capture file technology part of the process. But very impressed with the Revopoint RANGE 2 3D Scanner.

This scanner is perfect, the software is also easy to use and very powerful. The details are impressive and for this price I don't think there's anything better at the moment. I really love it and hope that one day I'll have also a revopoint range 2 to cover all sizes as currently I own also beside de mini 2, a pop 2 that is also very powerful.

Update 24.04.2024: I am updating my rating from 3 to 4 stars due to very proactive customer support following my initial issue with the payment/discount issue.-----I already own the Revopoint Pop 2 Scanner, which I found quite difficult to use for scanning people. The Range 2 makes that much easier. Be aware of course, that this type of scanner usually has a hard time with hair (especially dark hair) or shiny objects, but this is a common issue for these types of scanners and there are solutions to mitigate this, such as 3D scanner sprays or dry shampoo. Another challenge with scanning people is that people have a hard time staying totally still, thereby creating some artefact, but again this is not an issue with the technology.I originally had tried to buy the scanner directly via RevoPoint's EU website using discount codes found on YouTube, but their store solution did not work with my credit card (I have never had any issues in any other webshops - Amazon worked fine with the same credit card). Amazon to the rescue! But ultimately, I bought the device at considerably higher price than I could have - not really satisfying first impression. However, I find the device quite good after a little practice. You will probably need to clean up your scan a bit after scanning something, especially if scanning people, but the Revo Scan software is quite useful for that. The pros:+ Connects directly to PC via WiFi and is very easy to use, once set up+ Tracking works quite well+ Intuitive Revo Scan software that allows good basic clean-up of your scan+ Scanner can do color and texture scanning+ Good also for scanning humans - if they can stand/sit reasonably still+ Nice carrying case included along with various accessoriesThe cons:- The biggest annoyance for me: Capturing colors/textures turns on some bright, flashing LED lights - and this cannot be disabled without disabling color/texture capture altogether! So if you plan to scan your sleeping baby (or an epileptic friend), this is far from ideal. It would be nice to at least have the option to disable the flashing LED lights even if texture quality degrades a bit as a result. In a well-lit room, I think the flashing lights would be redundant anyway.- The included carrying case emits a very strong solvent/chemical smell, which gave me a headache when sitting next to it for too long (closing it and not sitting too close to it helps, but it doesn't seem like a healthy thing)- Scanning outside in daylight is probably unrealistic, since the natural light overexposes the image too much for a useful scan- Exporting a textured object that can actually be viewed in Windows 3D Viewer with *visible textures* is hit-and-miss. The same object can be exported several times with different filenames, without the textures being shown in Windows. Then all of a sudden one of the export files will show the texture correctly, without any doing any obvious changes. Possibly, this is a bug in the Revo Scan software. A possible solution that seems to work sometimes: First export to textured OBJ format *without* changing the default filename. Afterwards, you can export to OBJ with a filename of your own choosing.
