I’m not a calligrapher. However, I am an unapologetic “doodler”. And, this pen with its extra fine brush tip and beautiful water soluble ink is great for my purposes. The kit includes a pen body with an installed ink cartridge ready to use as well as a spare cartridge. The cartridge in the pen has a tip protector for shipping. So, there’s very little chance of tip damage or leakage.The tip is actually a lot firmer than I expected from a “brush” tip. But for my preferred quick doodling technique, it actually works better for me. The firm tip provides a precise line ink for a quick doodle taking just a minute or two. Then, I take advantage of the pen’s water soluble ink to use a wettened watercolor brush to drag the ink across the paper to create a more “filled-in” looking doodle in just a minute or two.

This is a letter pen with a firm but bendy tip. Firm because you can write with just the tip in a fine line if you want or when you apply pressure the tip will bend pretty significantly to give you a wider line. I got it for drawing instead of lettering and it works great for that. Lots of interesting lines. At 18 dollars it's not a good value though.
