Nach vielen Jahren positiver Erfahrung mit den WD Red und Recherche im Internet wollte ich mir fürmein neues NAS 2 WD Red Pro zulegen. Etwas skeptisch haben mich die Bewertungen bezüglich der Verpackung gemacht, aber der Verkäufer hat sie sich augenscheinlich zu Herzen genommen.Die Verpackung ist mehr als perfekt. Ich habe leider nur 1 Foto gemacht, aber es war eine Kartonhülle,darin mit Noppenfolie umhüllt die Karton/Schaumstoffummantelung der Festplatte. Besser geht es nicht.In den ersten 2 Tagen nach der Einrichtung des NAS waren die Festplatten schon intensiv zu hören. Aberseitdem finde ich die gelegentlichen Geräusche nicht als besonders unangenehm.

Using 2, 4TB drives in a home RAID array for photos, videos, etc. Main drive is an SSD but decided to go with these for bulk storage as they are a bit cheaper (guessing my last time buying HDD's and next time will just use SSD's because they are just so much faster).Drives seems to perform nicely and other than a little HDD noise here and there don't find them bothersome at all. Previously had 2, 2TB of these red drives in a RAID array (had it running for about 8 years) and never had any issues. In our office we have Gold versions of these running on a backup server for about 6 years with no issues. All in all, very reliable. Speed is fine, but obviously not going to compare to SSD.One thing about size of the drives which I see some comments on...The size of the 4TB drive is going to be approximately 4 trillion bytes (mine is 4,000,765,177,856 bytes), however your system will likely report that as 3.64 TB or 3.726 GB. The reason for this is that Windows computes 1GB as equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB as equal to 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. These numbers are achieved by raising 2 to an increasingly greater power till you get your first number in the billions and then trillions. There is some technical reason why this is done, but ultimately it is just confusing as it creates 2 different ways of computing size. One, counting the actual number of bytes and the other, dividing your bytes by one of those numbers to get the amount of GB's or TB's. For MB the number Windows uses is 1,048,576 bytes (for example a 20,000,0000 byte file will be reported as 20,000,000 / 1,048,576 = 19.07MB).In any case, here is a summary of the approx drives sizes and around what Windows will report the size as (assuming the drives sizes represent actual bytes exactly, so 4TB for this calculation will be 4,000,000,000 bytes and not the number my computer showed above... so expect the actual numbers to be slightly higher than these):2TB Drive = 1.82TB or 1,862.65GB4TB Drive = 3.64TB or 3,725.29GB6TB Drive = 5.46TB or 5,587.94GB8TB Drive = 7.28TB or 7,450.58GB10TB Drive = 9.09TB or 9,313.23GB20TB Drive = 18.19TB or 18,626.45GBHope this clears up some confusion here.

Ergänzung nach einem ca. halben Jahr Laufzeit:Die Festplatte ist nun ca. 6 Monate in Betrieb. Sie ist geringfügig lauter als der Vorgänger undim Control-Center des NAS zeigt sie sich im Vergleich zu den anderen drei dauerhaft um ca. 2,5 Grad wärmer (bei automatischer Lüfterverwaltung des NAS). 3 Monate lang lief sie im 24/7 Dauerbetrieb. Seit etwa 3 Monaten wird das NAS in der Nacht aus Energiespargründen herunter gefahren.Fazit: Die Platte war gut und sehr sorgfältig verpackt, lief sofort und korrekt, nach 6 Monaten Betrieb keine negativen Anzeichen. Ein guter Kauf.*****Herzlichen Dank den Rezensionen anderer Käufer, wodurch ich von einem Fehlkauf und möglichem Datenverlust bewahrt wurde.Die neue 4 TB WD RED PRO Platte wird in ein NAS eingebaut, als Ersatz für eine bisherige WD RED welche nach ca. 8 Jahren Dauerbetrieb Probleme bekam.Die Platte ist termingerecht eingetroffen und war vorbildlich verpackt.Das Laufwerk selbst befand sich in der originalen silbrigen Schutzverpackung, diese zusammen in einer Luftpolsterfolie und diese wiederum in einer Versandverpackung mit kräftigem Polsterschutz.Leider war nicht eindeutig, ob diese neue Platte mit dem NAS-System kompatibel ist. Der Hersteller des NAS hatte für das Modell keine WD RED PRO 4TB Platten in der Kompatibilitätsliste aufgeführt und auf Rückfrage (Formular ausgefüllt) bedauerlicherweise nach 1 Woche noch nicht geantwortet. Dies führte zu etwas Unsicherheit beim Wechsel. Der Wechsel prima geklappt (auf eigene Verantwortung). Backups erstellen ist sehr wichtig!Die Platte läuft trotz der höhreren Drehzahl sehr ruhig und tut bis jetzt den Dienst welcher von ihr erwartet wird.Aktuell läuft sie beim RAID Rebuild mit einer hohen Auslastung was nach 1 Stunde zu einer 4°C höheren Betriebstemperatur führt als die Nachbarplatten.Nachtrag:Der Rebuild im TS-421 dauerte für RAID5 und 6-7 TByte etwa 24 Stunden. Die Festplattentemperatur bleibt bei ca. +3 °C relativ zu den älteren WD-Red (mit CMR).Das geamte NAS ist geringfügig lauter geworden (Lüfter)

I bought 2 of these to replace a set of old 750G Samsung disks that had been running nearly non-stop for 12 years. They still ran 'kinda' OK but sometimes they started to get kicked from my RAID config... so it was time to change.So far so good. The sound is a little less than the Samsungs but you can still hear them, nothing bothersome though. Speed-wise, 1 disk is about as fast as 3 of those Samsungs in raid-0. They're doing their job and here's me hoping these drives will last me at least a decade too.Only time will tell ...I also bought 2 SSD's around the same time, I'm curious which will give up first but I'm sure they won't make these disks anymore when they do kick the bucket. :)I'm not doing anything too fancy on them, they're just meant to keep data. All software that needs speed is running on SSD but I'm happy with the speed of the data. You can probably get faster disks but you'll pay for it too and if it's not necessary it's just a waste. These seemed like a very good compromise (for my personal use).

Zur Festplatte selbst will ich gar nicht so viel schreiben, jetzt wo ich funktionierende Exemplare habe tun beide Platten was sie sollen und das schnell und akustisch angemessen. Haltbarkeit und ähnliches wird sich beweisen.ABER bis dahin war es ein gruseliger Weg wie hier so oft beschrieben. Das erste Paar (reine Schutzfolienumhüllung) flog einfach so im Karton herum, am Boden und seitlich gar keine Polsterung, darüber ein Hauch von Alibiluftpolstern. Der Karton selbst war auch gestaucht. Und so waren auch die Platten vom Zustand, eine klackerte schon beim Auspacken, sang in allen Tonfarben im Testgehäuse und wurde gar nicht erkannt, die zweite wurde zwar erkannt aber nach den ersten fehlerhafte Blöcke Meldungen gingen beide zurück ins spartanische Nest und ich reklamierte sie auf Ersatzlieferung.Die Ersatzplatten waren wie ich es von früheren Bestellungen kannte dick umhüllt und gut verpackt, alle Prüfungen melden keine Fehler und die Akustik ist gleichmäßig bei beiden Platten.Geht also, warum erst Trümmer und Abfall produzieren? Und wenn ich hier lese wie oft Schrott über den Versand produziert wird frage ich mich wirklich ob das keinen interessiert, das sind doch massive Verluste.Also 5 Sterne für die Festplatten, minus 5 für die erste Lieferung.Und trotz allem ein Danke für die schnelle Ersatzversorgung.

bought this drive to replace a failed 4TB WD Red that just exceeded the 3 years warranty. My DS412+ took it in well, no complaints at all. Within a day the rebuild completed. Shipping was great and well within estimated time frame.[Update 16-Jun-2024] Do not buy this (and likely others too) HDD on Amazon.sg if it is sold by Amazon USA. I eventually bought 3 of these from Amazon.sg. In May 2024, 1 of the drives failed, and I discovered that WD will not provide RMA service as the unit is considered "OUT OF REGION". I am in Singapore, but the device was meant to be sold within the USA. WD advised to check with reseller, in this case Amazon.sg. Guess what? Amazon.sg is pushing it back to WD. Stating that the seller is 3rd party in USA, and they can't do anything. Funny how the product is sold by Amazon.com (USA).

I bought another pair of the 4TB WD Red Pro drives to go in another NAS, my third now. These drives have the extra benefit of being optimised for NAS working and are heavy duty, and the Synology knows about them and how to make the best use of the system.Except for some chatter when the heads are seeking, I cannot hear them working unless I use a screwdriver as a "mechanic's stethoscope" on the box. The box runs cool.The drives do not come with a fitting kit, but this is not required in most installations which expect to see standard drives and have appropriate mounting systems, as is the case with the Synology.Commissioning and drive checking took about an hour, including unpacking, initialising, updating, and installing all the software and permissions needed.The end capacity in the NAS is not 4TB, but much closer to 3.6TB after big-drive formatting and RAID system are taken into account. However I am happy with this as it is about two years worth of storage, and then it will be time for another newer RAID drive.More smaller new systems with incremental improvements instead of one big old slow one is like having several easily managed baskets for one's precious eggs instead of a big heavy one just asking to be dropped.
