Introduction
ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-1.69 is a cost-effective, high-performance microcontroller development board designed by Waveshare. On the small plates, onboard a
1.69-inch capacitive touch LCD screen, Lithium battery charging chip, 6-axis sensor (3-axis accelerator and 3-axis gyroscope), and peripheral interface

This is another example of a good product from Waveshare, although this time around the LCD kind of disappoints.The board itself is well made, with components well soldered and aligned. The inclusion of an expansion connector is a great addition.The LCD though is quite far from being the best. Brightness is quite low (barely usable outdoors, even on a partially cloudy day). The colors are washed out, but that's to be expected given the specifications.The online documentation, although not the easiest to read, gives a few demo programs that can be tested right away. Some configuration details are buried in the demo programs (like the communication pins for the LCD)ESPhome can be easily flashed and, after finding out the details from the not so good communication, the LCD can be used just fine.

I've download loads of software to try getting it up and running, without success! I use arduino ide and again it doesn't recognise the board there isn't enough documentation for this item I came in a little box with the gpio cables that's it so for now I'm giving it a 1 star until I can actually do something with it.

Zugegeben, ich habe mir das Board, bzw. diesen TFT aus reiner Neugier bestellt. Eine wirkliche Verwendung habe ich dafür noch nicht gefunden. Eine Smart Watch damit zu bauen - ich vermute stark, dass das die Herkunft des Displays erklärt - scheint naheliegend aber langweilig ;-)Ich habe mich also auf ein paar Experimente mit dem Display beschränkt, bis ich einen guten Platz dafür gefunden habe.Gleich vorweg: Das Display ist nicht gut - nicht wirklich hell, niedriger Kontrast, blasse Farben. Das sticht schon direkt beim ersten Anschalten ins Auge, wenn das herstellerseitig installierte Testprogramm läuft.Leider gibt es auch keine Touch-Funktionalität. Die Platine selbst ist aber von guter Qualität. Schön ist auch, dass man ein Kabel mitgeliefert hat, wo alle Pins auf Dupont Stecker herausgeführt werden.Da das Board völlig ohne irgendeine Dokumentation ausgeliefert wird, ist man bei der Inbetriebnahme auf sich allein gestellt. Nicht einmal einen Link oder einen QR-Code hat man aufgedruckt. Auf der Waveshare-Seite muss man die Infos auch erst mühselig suchen (Auf der Produktseite gaaaanz nach unten scrollen. Da gibt's ein paar Fotos mit dem Pin-Out).Für Einsteiger kann ich das Board also ganz klar nicht empfehlen - etwas Erfahrung im Umgang mit ESP32-Boards sollte man schon haben, da Dokumentation praktisch nicht vorhanden ist.Ein zweiter dicker Minus-Punkt ist für mich der recht hohe Preis. Ein ESP32 Board und einen Screen kann man separat deutlich günstiger erwerben, wenn auch nicht in diesem Formfaktor.Wer also nicht unbedingt eine Smart Watch bauen möchte, findet zahlreiche Alternativen mit besserer Dokumentation.
