This is the best trilogy on geo politics to read, worth reading it. I was able to feel it.

Much useful information about geography from around the world. Top 3 takeaways from reading the book:- Page 21: 50% of Australia's 26 million people live in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Noone lives in the deserts in the middle of Australia, which cover 70% of the country.- Page 50: The great salt desert, the Dasht-e Kavir, is 800 kilometres long and 320 kilometres wide. Because of this desert and Dasht-e Lut, the other main desert in Iran, most people live in the mountains.- Page 218: About 10,500 years ago, monsoon rains transformed the Sahara desert into lush Savannah and what is now the Sahel. As the desert shrank, possibilities to hunt and gather increased. People came from north and south. Livestock were introduced, and people learned farming methods.

This book is not really about geography - it just uses this geography as a piece of background information about geopolitics, mostly with a focus on military aspects. And it does a really good job at this: I learned quite a lot of new things and perspectives about this. The book was also a surprisigngly enjoyable read and not as dry as other books in the genre tend to be.

Not nearly as interesting as his Prisoners of Geography. Interesting history lessons, but not at all as eyeopening as the first book.

Just as good as the first one (Prisoners of Geography). He explains, in a way that everyone understands it, how and why certain countries are the way they are. Why they face certain problems or are bound to play a major role in the future.Already looking forward to another book he may write!
