I used this for 10-24 and 1/4 x 20 aluminum rivnuts with no problems. That's what this tool is designed to do. If I wanted to install carbon steel or stainless steel, I'd go with a more robust system. I wish the gun had a little bit more reach when tightening rivets and removing the tool after the nut was expanded was awkward. However, it worked as described and definitely got the job done. I had to punch out one nut out of twenty or so. Otherwise it worked fine and I'll definitely use it again.If you're looking for a better way to mount plates and brackets on sheet metal than sheet metal screws, this is the way to go. Very pleased with the results.

An old technology that has stood the test of time; a simple idea that works well. I used it for repairing some electrical panels that had originally used self-tapping screws. This allows for the use of proper bolts and repairs the stripped-out sheet metal threads making a professional repair. The tool construction is fairly basic and probably would not win any awards but it works well and the price is right. A great handyman repair tool. With a little care you could put threaded inserts in wood. Various size inserts (Rivnuts) are available.

Once I set the tool up it worked fine. Just used the 10-24 set and it worked perfect after trying a couple rivnuts to find the optimum pressure to set it in place or the threads will be damaged. Worked great.

This works great. The depth stop dial (threaded post closest to the handle) allows you to avoid over squeezing and damaging your threads until you get the hang of it. I really like the 10-32 mandrel, which we use a lot in aviation, some cheaper locally available models don't have the 10-32 mandrel. (They have the 10-24) I bought two tools so I don't have to swap out mandrels, and they are inter-changeable but this one works great. I use aluminum exclusively and am not sure how it sets steel rivnuts. I find it so nice to have the entire number, letter and dimensional drill bit set, so I can have an exact tight fit. Doesn't come with rivets, but airplanes need specific rivets for the application, so no problems.
