I purchased battery powered shades 5 years ago. These shades take eight AA batteries per shade at 7 shades. At first I used mainly alkaline batteries. The batteries would last about 6 months and all seemed to go at once. All in all, 56 batteries every 6 months or so. That got a little crazy even though the batteries were not horribly expensive. So I switched over to lithium ion AA batteries. The problem with lithium ion is one of the eight batteries would go out about every 3 monthes and then I would have to check all the batteries to find the one bad cell, frustrating. It was maddening constantly having to repair or check my shade batteries. I had a great idea, create my own battery packs with lithium ion rechargeable 18650 batteries and then use a solar panel to recharge them. Thats where these solar panels come in. I purchased these panels, soldered them together and hot glued to some ABS plastic. Not perfect but good for a prototype.Everything worked great and I am going on 2 years with the same lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, nice!I just purchased more panels to remake everything look more professional as seen in the pictures.Note:- My shades are 12 volt and you would think two 6 volt solar panels would work, not for me apparently. The panels are on the inside of hurricane e-glass windows so I need 3 panels to get 12 to 14 volts.- These solar panels charge a home made battery pack with three 3.7 rechargeable lithium ion batteries. I know this does not equal 12 volts but come to find out these batteries can collectively be charged up to 14 volts.- The soldering tab are very, very fragile to heat and when they melt off, good luck trying to fix it. I have learned to use a very quick soldering technique to tinning the tabs, let cool and then quickly solder a wire. Also I try to only use the copper soldering tab in the center of the panel.
