Sadly, I was unable to make it work with the Ximea x-ray camera.I suspect that this is because the camera requires 6W of power, while this adapter does not have an additional power connector. I even contacted StarTech before the purchase, asking them if that would work. They were somewhat unsure about that, but stated that 6W is not too much and many FireWire devices use more power (and they usually work).Slightly later, I found "FireBoard 800™ V.3 1394b PCI adapter", which actually worked for me. Note that it have the additional power connector (but it also uses a different TI chipset, so, after all, the power capability might not be the key). Moreover, strangely, only one of the two external ports of the FireBoard adapter work for me, although there's no evidence in the docs that they are different in any sense.

I am not usually the type to leave bad reviews... But this card just does not work for me. The computer recognizes the card, but no devices are recognized when plugged into it. I tried a Firewire 800 drive (with the 800 to 6 pin cable) and a Sony Digital8 Handycam, neither device recognized on either of the two computers and I tried on Windows XP, 7 and 10 and with different drivers. Unfortuantely I have no other Firewire devices to test it with, so I can only conclude its the card.Someone elsewhere on here, said you need a full 64 bit PCI slot for the thing to work properly, even using the Firewire 400 port >.

Lamentablemente no he podido instalar la tarjeta porque mi placa base no tiene ranura pci. Pero la he devuelto y sin problemas. Todo perfecto.

This product worked fine for the most part, but I have a strange problem with it. I installed the card in what I believe to be a standard PCI slot. However, the card extends beyond the slot. I thought nothing much of this at first, but the results bear out a problem. The two Firewire 800 input jacks are working fine, but the one I really need for my video transfer device - the Firewire 400 input jack - is totally dead. A tech guy I consulted - who knows far more about computers than me - guessed that the contact section of the card that extends beyond the slot is the part that powers the 400 input jack. I have only heard of 'PCI' and 'PCI express' slots/cards. The tech made up a name for the card 'PCI extended' and said he had never seen this before. The card is clearly built for a longer slot than I have. I do know the difference between a PCI and a PCIe. My computer is a brand new custom build. I wonder if there are more than one type of PCI? I want to buy the right card, but I am unsure about how to go about it now. I see nothing on PCI card specs indicating different lengths. So I tried a cable that goes from Firewire 400 to 800...my video transfer device plugged into an 800 input is 'seen' by the computer, but the various video softwares I have all show messages indicating stuff not being quite right. I haven't tried to capture video with it yet, so I don't know what I will get, but seeing messages saying the quality may be questionable makes me want to obtain the right card and not mess around with a Band-Aid-type fix.If anyone knows more about this, I would appreciate some advice...

awesome item, perfect for video. Works well with win xp and even better with win 7. The free video kit is very simple but great if your just starting out.Hooks up easy , just remember to go to the website and get the latest drivers first before install. The software download gives you full control over the device and the options to switch drivers back and forth with just one click.I have used this in both 400 a and 800b modes and the speed and quality is great.A good way to upgrade your computer without having to replace the mobo. get this product.if you want a low price and great tech.
