I use it on an old and trusty Intel micro ATX motherboard with Q57 chipset and core i5 660M.If your are stuck on performance with old system and old Sata SSD, this the way to go.

Genutzt wird der Adapter auf einem Sabertooth 990fx von Asus. 2x NM790 von Lexar und werden im BIOS sofort erkannt. Installation von Win10 auf eine der M.2 war kein Problem. Leider wird die Karte, bzw. der Kühlkörper des Chipset's nach kurzer Zeit so heiß, das man selbst die Slot-Blende nicht berühren sollte.Lt. Startech-Support sind solche thermischen Probleme nicht bekannt. Es geht dann so weit das die Karte vom PCIe Bus nicht initialisiert wird und das System nicht mehr bootet. Muss aber dazu sagen, das es sich beim Kauf nicht um "Neuware" handelte sondern um gebrauchte, Zustand "wie neu". Nachdem der Support mir geraten hat, die Karte zu tauschen - werde ich nun eine "neue" bestellen und dann vergleichen - Werde berichten und ggf. die Bewertung korrigieren.Vom Datendurchsatz her schaffen beide Nvme's im Adapter 3.1 bis 3.5GB/s - und obwohl der BUS nach PCIe 2.0 Standard ist, laufen die NM790 im 3.0 Modus - von der Geschwindigkeit bin ich mehr als begeistert.Update v. 11.11.2023:mit einer "neuen" Karte arbeitet das System nun grundsätzlich stabil. Hohe Wärmeentwicklung des Chipset trotzdem vorhanden. Ein weiterer kleiner Kritikpunkt: zwei M.2 mit optionalem Kühlkörper (zb BeQuiet MC1) zu betreiben ist problematisch, da der Abstand zwischen den beiden Slot's zu gering ist. 1-2mm mehr und es würde tadellos passen.Statt 2 nun 4 Sterne. Werde gerne weiter berichten ....

Quick and simple to install. I put this to work on my Asus Maximus Formula XI (Z390) motherboard in the lower PCIe x16 slot (which is only wired up for x4 anyway) to round off my storage with an extra M.2.I would add that before using something like this you will need to be careful in that your motherboard's PCIe configuration would need to properly support it. My board normally runs the lower x16 slot with only x2 mode, but can be toggled to x4 mode at the loss of a couple SATA ports - so you will also need to make sure you are not sacrificing needed connectivity on your own setup. For me, I just had to make sure the SATA drives I had connected were attached to any of the other 4 SATA ports that would remain active after the configuration change.

Der Name des Produktes ist etwas irreführend da es sich in keinster Weise um ein Netzwerkprodukt handelt.Ich habe sie mir aber auch nur zur Erweiterung meines PCs um zwei weitere M.2 Slots gekauft wofür das Produkt gedacht ist und auch wirklich tadellos funktioniert. Auf dem Markt habe ich kaum Alternativen gefunden, sodass ich mehr als Zufrieden bin das die Karte perfekt funktioniert.Die Datenraten sind auch bei voller Auslastung beider Laufwerke konstant bei 3,5 GB/s also maximaler PCI-E 4x Bandbreite. Ich kann also bestätigen dass die Karte mit 8x angebunden ist und somit die volle Leistung der SSDs zur Verfügung steht.

I needed this to put an extra SATA3 port on my older Z77 motherboard along with adding an E-Sata external port (yes, E-Sata ahaha!) I have an external IcyBox HDD bank and needed to connect it a bit quicker than USB 3.1 would do i.e. 6Gbps SATA Vs 5Gbps USB. Anyway, had a few boot up issues until I worked out what I was doing wrong (my fault, not StarTech). It is now up and running reliably and with the silly 'jumper switches which I hate (very fiddly) I can decide if I want 2 more SATA ports for my HDDs OR if I want 2 external E-Sata connections OR one of each. It is important to know that you can only have TWO of the ports operating at once - any combination of SATA or E-Sata but only TWO. Once you understand and are happy with that it is a great device to have on your machine. IMPORTANTLY, this card has a PORT MULTIPLIER. This means that any one of the SATA or E-Sata ports can handle MULTIPLE HDDs. If you tried this with a normal port WITHOUT a port multiplier you would have issues. I now have FOUR HDDs working from just ONE of the E-Sata ports on this StarTech card. It really is a remarkable little card. More ports would be nice but it is all I needed at this point. I have found StarTech very good with support in the past for other devices - I just called them for some advice on setup and they were great. The quality is more than worth it so don't be tempted by similar things on the web which are much cheaper. StarTech engineer these things properly to last - no bad surprises. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

After a couple of days, the nvme disconnected after resume from sleep. After this, the bios did not even recognise the nvme disk. On inspection, the relatively thin pcb was not sitting comfortably in the PCIE slot - the thin bendy mounting bracket pulled at the card. The disk is also mounted parallel to the slot, which causes dead weight.Replaced with an Aquacomputer Kryom. 2 (note the Kryom. Evo only takes a single sided nvme!) which has a solid bracket, a thicker board, and the nvme is mounted perpendicular to the pcie slot. Since installing, there have been no problems, and the card fits perfectly in the slot.

Superb card. Plug in and away you go. 8x port multiplyer (JBOD) on eSata ext ports. Fast 6gbs transfer speeds. No dropouts or disconnects. Now the bad news - DOES NOT WORK (YET) ON WINDOWS 10 1809.17763.379. If you are still on revision 316 or lower including builds 1803 it works fine. The fault appeared to be introduced in 1809.17763.348 and Startech support are aware and hopefully working on a fix. Microsoft, as per usual will take a bit longer as getting the required info to the right people is almost impossible.I tried several other cards but this appears to be the only one on the market that supports 8 external drives.So don't waste your time on any alternatives (other Startech models or Marvell branded cards (they all use similar ASM CHIPS/DRIVERS)) BECAUSE i'VE TRIED THEM. They will WORK with 5 drives although the Startech recognised 6?I switched to USB mode (connection) which works fine whilst waiting for the fix. Will update when this happens.

Da ich zuviele SSDs in meinem Rechner verbaut habe, hatte ich immer dass Problem, dass ein Teil nur über einen SATA2-Port angeschlossen werden und deshalb nicht mit voller Geschwindigkeit arbeiten konnte. Auf meinem Board ist zwar noch ein Marvell-Controller verbaut, doch bei diesem funktioniert der bei SSDs wichtige TRIM-Befehl nicht. :-(Also bestellte ich mir den PEXESAT322I von Startech. Nach einer problemlosen Erkennung durch Windows 10 und auch funktionstüchtigem Trim-Befehl, stand ich allerdings noch vor der Sache, dass bereits wie bei dem Marvell-Controller angeschlossene Laufwerke als "wechsel- und auswerfbar" in Windows erschienen. Bei internen Laufwerken ist das natürlich völliger Humbug.Durch Recherche im Netz bin ich dann auf diese Hilfsseite bei Deskmodder gelangt, wo genau dieses Problem beschrieben ist. Wer also ebenfalls das Probelm hat, soll sich hier umsehen. Übrigens. Eine Lösung für Windows 7 hatte ich schon früher. Aber die funktioniert unter Windows 8/10 nicht.Hier der Link, ich hoffe dieses ist erlaubt.[...]Update:Leider war der Link nicht erlaubt. :-( Dann googlet bitte nach dem Stichwort: "TreatAsInternalPort Windows10" ohne "" Sucht dann nach einem Ergebnis bei Deskmodder.Alternativ könnt ihr auch nach "KB3083627" suchen und dann den Microsoft-Link nehmen. Die Anleitung von Deskmodder ist die gleiche wie die bei MS.

Reçue ce matin dans un petit carton habituel, dans sa boite d'origine re-scotchée.Manque le cordon Sata, çà commence mal !.Passons au montage et aux essais.En premier mise en place des cavaliers pour ports internes. Essai 1 sur le slot PCIe 1x V-1.0 c'est une catastrophe par rapport au Sata II (3gb/s)...Heureusement sur le slot PCIe 8x V-2.0 çà change tout et c'est presque l''apothéose, même le contrôleur Marvell 9128 dit Sata III (6gb/s) est battu par cette très bonne carte à base ASM 1601.Sur ma carte mère Gigabyte GAX58A-UD3R çà manquait cruellement un vrais contrôleur SATA III (6gb/s) pour gérer au mieux mon SSD VERTEX 4 comme il faut, et ne rien perdre de sa vitesse...C'est chose faite.Merci Amazon pour ce reconditionné à 50% et l'envoi rapide.
