This works well to put an edge on my garden spade and is easy to grip. With some work you can even out dings where the spade has hit rocks. For a regular edge it works fine just to sharpen the blade on shovels, hoes, and spades. It doesn't work as well on the curved blades of hand pruners. There is a clearance problem just due to the size. For branch loppers with straight blades, you can get most of the edge. It's not fussy to use, no oils or angle worries. Having the grip top is really helpful. The bright yellow color makes it easy to spot if you leave it on the ground. It is easier for me to use than a straight rectangular stone. I don't worry about barking my knuckles or having the stone slip out of my grip. I like my fingers being away from the edge I am sharpening. It feels safer to use.

Works very well to hone a nice edge on my garden shears and such. Even to freshen up my mower blade.
