Quality product, and not too thick or heavy. However, it's just me so it doesn't get a lot of use. I wish they made a 1.5 or 2 qt braiser. This is perfect for searing steaks or searing a roast and then finishing in the oven or stove top. Toss in veggies as desired for a nice meal. The top has the knows inside for adequately braising and retaining moisture. There are many other things it can be used for without the lid, like casseroles, pies, cobblers, even a large cornbread. I also like that it's all iton amd no enamel coating. It's really hard to find today. I expect this to last decades and be a hand me down to next generations.

This is a cast iron braising pan with a lid. It's extremely heavy duty, virtually indestructible. It's also physically heavy! This pan can be used on a grill (gas or charcoal), on a household range, over an open fire, or in an oven. The listing states it is pre-seasoned, but as a long time cast iron user, I seasoned it myself. It's a very simple process, just coat the pan with oil and put it in a hot oven or on a hot grill. I like to use my gas grill. Once properly seasoned, cast iron is nonstick. It may take a few months of regular use to get the pan seasoned well enough to be nonstick. This pan will last more than a lifetime; expect your children and grandchildren to use it as well.

This pan is solid! I have several types of braising pans, but always wanted a cast iron pan. I'm happy with the quality, the instruction for use and cleaning and how amazing it is to cook with. The pan is not super deep but makes up for it with the diameter. Easy to stove top and transition to the over. Great great item.

We got this just in time too, right before Hurricane Helene hit WNC. All I had to do was wipe it out with a wet paper towel before cooking. I added a bit of oil and cooked our dinner on a camp stove we have, since the power had gone out. It cleaned up easily, after removing all the food, I put a bit of water, enough to cover any stuck on food and heated that up. Once the stuck on food had softened, after the pan had cooled enough to handle, I dumped the water and food residue and wiped it out with a paper towel and dried it. I applied a thin layer of oil all over the interior to keep it rust free. I have been using this pan for all the bigger dinner one pot meals and pan frying while the power is out, going on a week now. I can't wait for the power to come on and make some braised short ribs. Makes my mouth water thinking about it. This pan is heavy duty and seems very well made. This is my first Scottsberg cast iron pan and I am already a big fan. This will be a good addition to my cast iron cookware I use on my little fire pit as well. I was unprepared and didn't have any firewood cut up this catastrophe or I would have been cooking on that. This kind of pan takes to cooking over wood fire very well. This is going to be a pan I can pass down to grandkids.

This is just as good as any high quality cast iron pan. The issue is the price is about double of a near identical one that I own. Don't get me wrong, this is a great pan. I would look for a price drop though.
