Description:
The GPRS Shield is based on SIM900 module from SIMCOM and compatible with and its clones. The GPRS Shield provides you a way to communicate using the GSM cell phone network. The shield allows you to achieve SMS, MMS, GPRS and Audio via UART by sending AT commands (GSM 07.07 ,07.05 and SIMCOM enhanced AT Commands). The shield also has the 12 GPIOs, 2 PWMs and an ADC of the SIM900 module(They are all 2V8 logic) present onboard.
Be careful: Insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder by gently press down the SIM card holder!! Don't force up, otherwise you could damage the card slot!!

Deze module is samen met een ESP32, Arduino modules of Raspberry pi te gebruiken.Zelf gebruik ik deze als alarmsysteem wanneer de voeding van de diepvriezer uitvalt.Het is zeker niet gemakkelijk om de module aan de praat te krijgen. Zelf heb ik 2 weken na mijn arbeidstijd eraan gewerkt en zelfs hulp gezocht online. Toch in orde gekregen 🙂Op het Arduino forum staat het voorbeeld en de bedrading indien gewenst.

I was looking forward to test voice calling, after I succeeded in sending SMS - BUT BIG problems. Until now I have tried different code fragments form the IDE as well as other sources on the internet. They all have in common that no voice call is made.Some of the sode examples have lots of compiler warnings regarding various definition files (*.h ), which I have not been able to find solutions to.To sum up the GSM shield is fine for SMS, but it was actually the voice part that had my interest - a bit disappointed to be honest :-(

Carte d'interface compatible avec des cartes "Arduino" permettant aux amateurs "Arduino" ou "Raspberry" ou de "PC" tout court de construire des ensembles GSM (Global System Mobile) , transmission des données via le réseau téléphonique . Le prix bas permet à un grand nombre d'amateurs de s'initier à cette technique très intéressante d'échanger des données .

I ordered two SIM900 devices from my home in germany from different vendors. Both came in in some days from international sources.This device is fine and works well with a stock sim card and also with an IoT sim card from ThingsMobile.But directly after unpacking, the device did not respond in any way to the serial port. I checked that with an oscilloscope, it gives no signal at all and react not on any input.It is not complicated to write the firmware to the chip, both the firmware and the firmware loader software can be obtained by the chip vendor (simcom.ee). So I added the newest firmware and now the article works very nicely.

Leider liegt dem Modul keinerlei Dokumentation oder sinnvolle Anleitung bei. Da es aber mit einer seriellen Verbindung mit AT-Kommandos gesteuert werden kann, sind die nötigen Befehle schnell gegoogelt. Problematisch ist der Button zum Einschalten des Moduls, der kurzzeitig von Hand betätigt werden muss, um das Modul nach dem Einschalten der Stromversorgung zu starten. Vorher tut es nichts. Einige Module sollen wohl starten, wenn an Pin 9 für etwa 1,5s ein HIGH-Pegel angelegt wird. Hat bei mir nicht funktioniert. Aber zwei Drähte, der Button und ein Lötkolben erfüllen den gleichen Zweck. Kann dann z. B. mit einem Relais oder (schöner) einem Optokoppler gestartet werden. Erfolgt ein weiterer Impult, geht es wieder aus. Es liegt also am Programmierer, hierfür eine Lösung zu finden - z. B. indem versucht wird, mittels AT-Kommandos den Status abzufragen.Mein Fazit: Es tut, was es soll und scheint sehr gut zu laufen.
