Very easy to use. Retractable blade makes it very safe to store.

I got one of these seam rippers for Christmas, and it's pretty awesome. Retractable so you don't accidentally stab yourself. Cuts threads but doesn't cut skin, so it's safer. The description says it comes with a blunt blade and a pointed blade is available separately, but my unit came with one of each! The pointed blade lets you really dig into tight places and do precise seam ripping, the blunted one is good to more quickly rip long lengths of stitching without tearing into fabric. I ended up buying a second unit so I could have one of each type of blade handy. I had a lot of seam ripping to do last night and today, and this unit has really made the process a lot easier. I find I can hold the Slice a number of different ways, depending on how I need to access the seams I'm ripping, so it's very versatile.

After purchasing two of the Slice 10512 Pen Cutters a couple of years ago, I found them indispensible. Purchased initially because of all the box cutter blades we went through. The older model is shown on the left with other items in the first picture. Mostly use it to open Amazon packages, lol. It is auto retracting. Great for cutting packages and opening boxes. After two years bought a couple more keeping one in several different locations.This purchase was for the newer model with a more delicate blade. Great for cutting threads when seam ripping. As a sewist and quilter, I often need a seam ripper, :). I chose the manual model for this purchase. An auto retracting model works great for a short time, such as opening a package. The manual closure is practical when the device will be used for a length of time. The blade clicks into place, so it will stay secure when not in use. There is also a center adjustment so the tip of the blade will stay partially exposed if needed.I had purchased the pointy tips to use with the old version. However, according to the blade package (first picture) it will not fit that model. Didn't want to take a chance, so purchased the seam ripper model AND I wanted it to manually retract. I was surprised to see that the package for the seam ripper had an extra blade. You can see the hole in the package where the blade was located near the base of the cutter. That blade was a pointy blade. The rounded blade was shipped inside of the cutter, ready to go. See the second two pictures for a close up of the blades and the bottom of the package stating two blades were included. I placed the blades and the cutter on a cutting mat so they were more visible.Although I JUST received this cutter, I know it will work great for my purposes. As several reviewers have mentioned, this cutter's blade is slender at the tip. I plan on being careful not use it on thick items. Plus, I now have some extra blades should I damage one.One last point, this manufacturer donates to autism research. An ailment that has impacted many lives. It is manufactured in the USA, if anyone is interested. Highly recommend this and the other products made by this company. Was so excited, I just noticed they sell scissors too!

You have to remember that actual cutting action feels very slightly different. I have used a metal version of this tool and I spent more time worrying about my fingers being cut. This tool gives the advantage that you can work quickly being sure that neither you or the fabric gets cut. I’m glad I took the plunge and bought one. Yes the replacement blades seem expensive but the work you will get through doing so is phenomenal
