Device powered up normally (after removing the tab under the battery cover - which was not addressed in the instructions). The app saw the device in the devices nearby screen. When selected, the app said the device was ready to use and attempted to connect to it. It failed. It failed even after numerous attempts at reconnecting by clicking 'retry'. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S22+. I've connected via Bluetooth to a number of devices, including several that do not require pairing (like the Mopeka propane tank sensors). I have attempted to contact Runleader. We'll see if their customer service is better than their product.Update: No feedback from Runleader. Returning item.

Hour meter works fine, but but the instructions can be hard to obtain. Normally that would not be too much of a problem with only 3 wires, but included in the package is a notice with a red highlighted warning to be sure to refer to the installation instructions to avoid damage cause by installation errors. The notice contains other warnings as well. The QR code reveals a link from which to obtain the materials, but for several days this link reported "service not available". Typically, if a web site is down for maintenance, a splash page will be shown stating so. Whatever caused the site to not respond has apparently been cleared. The connection diagram is NOT in the Operating Instructions, but in the APP operating istructions!! It's only 3 wires, but given the notice, someone who's not that familiar with hooking things up might be somewhat reticent to just start attaching wires. The CR2032 battery is presumably for internal memory, but the unit receives its operating power from the 12v battery connection. The tiny screws provided look to be for mounting through thin panels. The driver for the screws is shown in the manual as a Torx driver, but the screws in the box are Allen and the driver provided is a tiny slotted driver. An easy problem to overcome. So, I'm nit picking maybe, but this meter is not inexpensive and the hoops one must jump through are so unnecessary. I recently acquired a very small oscilloscope about the size of a deck of playing cards. It is MUCH MORE complex to use than this hour meter, costs about the same, its origin is the same geographic region of the world and while not perfect, is a much better example of how to provide instructions for the product.

Product is easy to install and is perfect for keeping track of maintenance hours. Its not like the cheap one's. This has a more professional feel. Must have for small engines.

This review is for Runleader Digital Bluetooth Hour Meter Tachometer, Mobile Remote Operated RPM/Hour, $57 on Amazon. When I ordered this I really wasn’t sure how it worked. There are three wires coming from the device: Red & Black are for DC power, yellow gets wrapped around the spark plug wire. The device has a button battery installed. The Amazon write up implies that the red/black DC power is redundant and intended to save battery life. What I have learned is that the device needed DC power in order to sync with my Android based ‘Moresee’ app and to communicate with the device after syncing. Literature implies that it needs 12 VDC power but I brought the voltage down to 3.5 VDC and it still functioned fine. Did not function, though, with one 1.5 VDC battery. What I don’t yet know is whether the button battery is sufficient, by itself, for the device to collect the sparkplug data so that DC power is only needed when you want to connect the app. I will be checking for this when I connect the device to my one cylinder lawn mower and I’ll write up a review update at that time. It’s hard to give a star rating at this point but I’ll give the item a 4 star rating to be adjusted up or down when I write up my review update later on..

“TOT” aka total operation time. Haven’t used it just yet, but did pull the plastic from battery to start it up. Love that it has a battery indicator. Purchased for my outboard Yamaha on my boat . Only complaint is the wires to run to the battery are not long enough to route to the battery and they would have to be extended quite a bit. I do not plan on wiring to the battery and will just wrap the power terminals in electrical tape and a zip tie. I will monitor the battery as I need hours for maintenance reasons. We will see how it does under the cowling. Since it’s not recommended to be in 125 degrees or hotter, I will try to mount it on a plastic shield inside. It comes with all necessary mounting options and appears to be user friendly. You have to read the instruction closely to figure things out but it makes sense once you read through them. Will try to check back in on how it’s doing once I get the boat in water.
