Toy Battle, by the same mind behind Captain Flip (Paolo Mori), is a deceptively strategic game. Yes, it’s cute. Yes, each unit tile has their own style of gameplay and yes, it can be all over in less than 15 minutes but, behind all this delightful simplicity and ease of entry, there lurks the potential for some truly devious plays. You can choose to march straight across the board to your opponent’s HQ, taking no prisoners along the way or you can play for the medals by controlling whole areas of the board instead. Or try both. The beauty of Toy Battle is that it plays so fast that it almost doesn’t matter if your carefully laid-out battle plan doesn’t come off first time. You can reshuffle the tiles, set up the board and go again. In this sense, it is very much like Captain Flip too. It’s clearly meant to be accessible to younger players but can provide enough of a challenge for more experienced players too. There’s an element of forcing your opponent to discard their tiles and this might be upsetting for very young players, especially if playing against an overly-competitive parent but, that aside, it’s a perfect game. Easy to learn, tactile, not at all fiddly, no need to constantly refer to the rules and fast to learn and play. Would highly recommend for someone looking to ease themselves back into the hobby or introduce their children to it or even gift it to a friend with a passing interest in gaming. If only Monster Hunter World was this easy.

Excellent little game. Tons of maps so the strategy keeps shifting. Plays in 15 min, with easy set up. This one is a keeper.

The game is great. The packaging is terrible. The game arrived with a lot of bumps.
