This is actually a fab bit of kit, my children and I watch videos on rock tumbling and decided we wanted to give it a go. This think is pretty good, the noise reducer definitely works and it is very quiet if on the floor with a rubber mat underneath. The only downfall, is if like my children (mainly me) you have zero patience, it's a long process but it's the same with any machine.

This is a great idea for a fun hobby but I hadn’t appreciated that it would take days to see results - and so much noise in the meantime! If you have a garage with power supply running to it then you’ll be fine but otherwise, this is a bit of a non-starter. Also, I’m not sure how comfortable I am with leaving anything running endlessly for days. I would worry it would overheat and be a fire risk.

I bought this for my Granddaughter so I haven't actually seen it working.I bought this particular model as it was suitable for adults and children , plus it was value for money, it had all you needed to start including the suitable gem stones etc. I think the main feature was the reduced noiuse level.

It takes a while before you can see the final results, as the process involves several stages and different polishing powders that need to be added. The tumbler grinds the stones, but fortunately it’s not too loud. The set includes all the polishing powders you need, as well as a small starter pack of stones.

I wish I had a cellar again, let's put it that way. The low noise claim is not true, if you are sensitive to sound in anyway, this is not going to sit nicely with you unless you have a genuine place you can keep it out the way.I find that its very audible between rooms of the house and have had to stop it in order to concentrate or sleep. However, despite the noise, it does a lovely job. I personally didn't realise when I ordered but it does come with some stones and grit to get you started. The instructions like usual is a bit overwhelming and actually using it is a lot simpler than you think.Open the pot, put the stones in, fill with water to the top of the stones and the step 1 grit.Take apart the lid, and get the insert (the bit with the tab, don't take any further bits off just jam it in like a top into the jar. You then add the top and rescrew it tight. No water should come out when you tip it, if that's the case you've done it right. Plug it in, set the settings and away you go.Price wise given that you have a starter set as well, this is pretty good. Branded National geographic ones seem to go for twice as much (!) so for less than £50 for the equipment and enough to keep it running (it'll be about a month!) for it's first trial it's a fair price.Still running the first one but half way there now! Looking forward to trying it with something a bit more local, even if it's not as exciting.
