This training mat provides a nice slick surface ideal for practicing stickhandling techniques and various shooting drills when off the actual ice. I got this mat for my daughter to practice her hockey skills indoors, and overall she likes it. The surface is smooth and works well for stickhandling and passing drills. However, she did mention that it feels a bit slippery, and the ball tends to move very fast, which makes it harder to control at times. It’s still a good training tool, just something to keep in mind if you're looking for more grip or slower ball movement.

For the price of $69.99, this practice mat doesn't do anything special. I think you are just paying for the convenience of not making one yourself. It is basically just a heavy rubber mat with markings on it.That being said, field hockey players like it! It is especially good for younger players to practice indoors at home, although it says it is for outdoor use as well. This would make a very nice gift for a child who is really into field hockey. They can keep their stick skill growth going over the winter months. Additionally, if no one wants to put it away, it is a fine floor mat. It can even be used on top of carpet. We use it with a regular field hockey ball for indoor stick work.
