I needed to put new diodes into a VHF/UHF wattmeter. These diodes fit perfectly and work perfectly inside the pickup domes of the directional coupler. After placing a pair of these diodes into the wattmeter, it calibrated perfectly and works flawlessly.

After a couple disappointing purchases of what were described as "Ge diodes," but ended up being fake or Schottky diodes, I was so happy to finally find a seller that offers real point-contact "cat whisker" diodes! I swore this was going to be the last time I ever tried purchasing this type online if they weren't real. As soon as my package arrived I opened it to inspect the contents and saw the little curly wire inside the glass housing and knew I had finally scored.I've only used a couple of these, so far, mainly tinkering with RF circuits and breadboard-radio builds. The 1N270's specs are very similar to the 1N34 & 1N60...with just slightly higher threshold voltages and currents, but still within a few tens of milliamps & millivolts of what you'd expect with those two "more traditional" Ge diodes. I've found that the results are pretty much the same as what I get when using other cat-whisker diodes.I absolutely recommend these to anyone looking for real Ge/point-contact diodes. If you've been burned before...you will not be let-down with these.

I performed two tests on these diodes which I believe indicates they are real germanium diodes.1) With my Fluke meter using the diode function mode, they read .300 to .330 volt when forward biased.2) When connected reverse biased to a 1.5 volt battery I get about 2uA of current flow.And under close inspection they look like a typical glass germanium diode.So I am happy with this purchase and I just bought more!

What I received were indeed genuine Germanium and sound fantastic in my homebuilt version of the MXR distortion + guitar effect pedal. I inspected the diodes closely, even testing them to be sure before using any. They sound fantastic in the circuit and I'm very pleased as they are the crucial component in this particular project.
