This is a very sturdy rain chain formed in a similar fashion to a steel chain with interlocking links. I live in Michigan so strong and light is important if you want to leave it up in the winter. I had decorative chains that looked nice but fell apart with ice buildup. Rain chains work best with a funnel so if you are replacing a downspout then install a rain chain funnel sealed to the top of the downspout takeoff. You can also drill a round hole in the gutter and seal the funnel in with silicone. My only disappointment is that Amazon only sells 8.5 foot lengths so I had to buy two for my 12 foot high gutters.

Very pleased with my purchase - it looks great. The price was very good and it looks fabulous on my house and does the job of elegantly capturing the rain.

When my house was built, both front and back eaves-troughs were piped to a storm sewer inlet pipe next to the house. The one from the back actually went into and through the house! I changed that with a new downspout at the back. Over time, the storm sewer pipe clogged up. Now the front eaves-trough lets rain come down the rain chain and water a big tree. It also looks nicer than the pipe.
