I have a couple of magnetic dosing funnels at home but needed one for my portable coffee press at work. I ordered the MHW-3BOMBER 51mm Espresso Dosing Funnel because it was a great price and included a bonus screen. I like it but it's not perfect.The funnel is honestly a beautiful design and looks great. It feels well made with an ergonomic feel and a ring of 10 magnets underneath. The screen is a nice addition and, when I first took it out, I thought it was a solid piece of metal. Holding it up to the light revealed the openings that allow the water to flow through. If you have never used a funnel before it changes everything. You won't have to worry about coffee spilling out of the portafilter when you pour it in at all. It also helps to keep the coffee inside when you use your WDT to level things off. Once you have tamped your coffee, place the screen on top. The screen works VERY well at making sure the water is evenly distributed over the grounds for a better brew.The ONLY reason for my 4 star review is the magnets used. Even with TEN magnets the funnel comes loose easily. It seats well on my portafilters so it's not a sizing issue at all. I thought 10 was overkill when I first looked at the funnel but I was wrong! It still works but you will definitely need to be a bit careful not to knock it out of place.Overall, I like the design of the funnel and the screen works great. The funnel also works, but with the weak magnets, it's a bit overpriced at $25 in my opinion. If you need a screen AND funnel, it's a good value though, just be gentle when using it and it will definitely stay in place.

OK, I really like the design of the dosing funnel and love the screen. The only issue is that on my portafilter, the tabs are flush with the top. Because of this, the funnel doesn’t sit right on top of the basket; it sits up higher. If I press the bottom of the basket so it sticks up past the top of the portafilter, the funnel sticks very well to the basket. It’s not exactly how I would like to use it, though. I think they got the design right for the most part, and if the tabs aren’t flush with the top of your portafilter, this would work great for you, but it doesn’t really fit my particular portafilter well. The magnets work great and hold well if they do contact the basket. And when I pushed the basket up to use it, it does do a good job of keeping things tidy until you tap and tamp the puck. The screen is awesome, IMHO. Very thin doesn’t seem like it will collect gunk over time and is easy to clean. Much better than the mesh screens!

The funnel has made it so much easier and less messy to fill my portafilter. I can use my espresso stirrer to break up the clumps without getting coffee grounds everywhere. I just need to tap it to get the coffee off the edges before removing it so none of the grounds spill. I can then tamp it easily. I top it off with the puck screen that evenly distributes the water over the grounds. I only give it a 4 because, even though it's a universal fit for a 51mm portafilter basket, if it were a tiny bit smaller it would be a better fit.

I use this for a De'Longhi EC685M. I really like the puck screen with its dual layers design. This allows water to flow through the puck much more evenly. My pucks have a noticably more richer taste with less bitterness. I think this is helping the small amount of channeling I was once getting.What I don’t like is that lip that is on the funnel. On my 51mm portafilter, I do not have a raised edge, but instead a flattened edge. This results in the funnel not fitting on the portafilter “ears” at all. I wish I knew about this possibly being an issue when I first purchased it. I would recommend you mention this in your description that is does not work all that great on baskets with a flush lip. For those with a breville, I’m sure this is no issue. For others, it will be.

I got this set of dosing ring and pick screen for the 51mm portafilter on my Delonghi Stilosa EC260 espresso machine (it would fit EC230 as well as they are the same machine with different steam wand and accessories). They have become very useful tools in my daily espresso preparation.I don't know how anyone gets along without a dosing ring for their espresso portafilter. Without one I spill grounds everywhere, and distributing grounds with a little tap of the portafilter results in a mess. With the dosing ring I can put my blind shaker on top, let the grinds fall in, and get it all settled with a quick shake before tamping. When I WDT my pucks I also use the dosing ring a lot, it's essential to prevent spillage. The magnet works well on the two portafilters I have from Capfei and CittaLaLage and fits them well, but also works on the original Delonghi spouted pressurized portafilter if you want to use it on that. I wish it had a magnet on top because my shaker can slide around when placed on top of the ring but otherwise it works very well. It's as easy to use as it could be.The billet(?) style, I think it's called that, puck screen with a metal billet cut shower screen in addition to the mesh seems to work better than a mesh style one. The main advantage of a puck screen is a cleaner group head after each shot. But the point of them is supposedly that if your espresso machine doesn't deliver water evenly from the shower screen or if you are suffering from channeling, then you can get a slower, more even extraction going. I find that using the screen allows me to grind a little coarser and still pull the same volume of espresso in the same time.While the puck screen isn't totally necessary, having both in the same kit means it's a pretty good value for money if you want both things on your espresso station.
