Overall this product is Ok. It does what it claims and the picture is accurate. In my opinion its a little expensive for what is essentially just a piece of folded and welded stainless steel. My biggest complaint (and it was entirely on me because I missed this in the photo) is that on a Mercruiser Bravo III it doesn't come up high enough on the leading edge of the skeg. There is still about four inches of unprotected skeg between the top of the guard and the underside of the propeller housing. In my case I was looking to cover a skeg that had already been marred in this area so it didn't really accomplish that.It does look good as an accent against the gloss black of the stern drive (Mercruiser) and probably looks decent against the grey of a Volvo.I am not certain that this product is any stronger than the skeg itself and in the event of a strike with an underwater log or rock the most likely outcome is that the skeg guard will get destroyed or torn off. I think the damage to the skeg will be reduced but I don't think this will prevent any damage to the skeg.Note that you need to drill a hole through the skeg high up on the leading edge. I am not sure what would happen in the case of a strong strike with a solid object that tore the guard off. Hopefully the bolt will shear but it could also tear the screw hole out which means you would be replacing it with a full skeg cover not just an edge cover like this.I think this product is suitable if you are looking to hide existing skeg damage on the underside that doesn't go too far up the front edge or if you just want to add a layer of protection against minor strikes. Honestly, the only way to really avoid major skeg damage is to stay out of unknown shallow water and if you must go shallow be sure to trim your stern drive up as high as it goes.Happy boating!
