A very difficult puzzle to build. I almost sent it back because the stain that came with it leaked in the box but by luck didn’t damage any of the wood. If you don’t have any experience building these wood puzzles I would recommend you buying some of the cheaper wood puzzles to get some experience. I built a few of the wood marble run puzzles before. This puzzle is more money than I wanted to spend but steampunk is my thing and I think it looks awesome. If you plan on tackling this, make sure you study, sand and way what you need to. The stain that comes with it looks nothing like the picture so try it on a scrap piece of wood first. I bought my own called cherry red stain so that’s in my picture to see. Take you time and good luck !If you should need help just ask.

When I bought a Rubik's Cube in 1974 I Was thinking that it isthe most interesting smart designed toy in the World.I am old now and I bought a MECANIGMA...and THIs is REALLY an amazing pieceof art, a toy, a drug that improve your mental status, a work with 542 piecesof wood, plastic, bronze and steel. It is nice, interesting, not small, not big ...it is perfect! It is MAGIC...I really don.t understand how smart, how good designer and so inventive a guycould be to imagine such an amazing work of art.Everything is amazing in this item.....I love it more than all my derrivated cubescollection.

A few years ago, I bought box 26 of 33 that NKD made for $2500 Euros or $3000. That sounds like a lot for a puzzle box, but it is a work of art, and remains my favorite puzzle box to this day. I decided to buy the kit for $350 and 100 hours later I now have two which I will give to my two sons for birthdays this year with cash inside. I only made one major mistake putting it together, but was able to drill a hole to make the combination work. I wish I could buy another one pre-made because the quality is far superior and the parts are better quality than you find in the kit, but it is currently sold out. These NKD engineers are truly brilliant in so many ways. The beauty of the puzzle box itself, the way you put it together side after side, and the steps you follow in staining, cutting, sanding, and gluing are well thought out for such a complicated puzzle box. The directions are pictures and contain few words like what you find in a Lego set. I'm strongly thinking of buying another kit because I enjoyed putting it together so much. They have other kits so I might try one of those...this box is the coolest though.

Thats was a fun undertaking. Not necessarily the easiest thing to put together but well worth the time. I have experience building rc airplanes so working with laser cut wood was familiar. There are a lot of parts to this box and care must be taken when assembling it. Take your time building this be sure to sand for smooth operation.

got this kit via Kickstarter and started assembling last week. The quality of the parts is really underwhelming despite the high price tag. Especially the 3D-printed parts need a lot of manual alteration to fit together at all.The manual is VERY cryptic in some parts and a lot of different tools are required along with STRONG fingers. Can only recommend for experienced builders.

Assembly required sucks on a puzzle cuz then you have an advantage solving it. And it wasn't mentioned in the description. Deceptive and disappointing.

I have always wanted one of these after watching Chris Ramsay solve it. Buyers, beware! This is a challenge not for the faint of heart or those with heavy hands. The beautiful Mechanigma is much harder to assemble than it is to solve. The instructions are vague. What to varnish or not to varnish isn’t specified and you don’t know until it’s too late. The pieces are incredibly small and easy to shatter with so much as a twitch too hard of a push. Worst of all, it doesn’t show you how to assemble certain pieces or which side should face which way until you realize it doesn’t work the way you had it. I would love to buy another knowing now what I do but after a couple weeks of being patient and extremely careful (which caused so much stress as it was), the very last door broke and rendered it unsolvable. The plastic washer broke loose and jammed the combination door. Maybe if it’s still available in the future after the holidays when I’ve gotten some extra cash, I will try my hand at it again. But for beginners, pay very, very, very close attention to every single detail no matter how minor it may seem.
