So happy with the quality and range of these probes. I am a self proclaimed (beginner) pitmaster, and I think I bought the holy grail of temp probes. I’ve tried many and have not liked any of them until now. You will not regret this investment

The MEATER Pro XL is without a doubt the most accurate and intelligent temperate probe on the market. It can operate standalone or connected to WiFi with the app to manage the cook. Its USDA guided profiles for all common meats and cuts etc are very very accurate. The estimated cooking time once learnt is also very accurate although it takes time to calculate. What really impresses is how MEATER is able to almost perfectly calculate the resting / residual cooking time so you don’t overshoot your mark. There is however one big downside and that is the range on the probes back to the base station. They use Bluetooth and in my experience both with a quality Weber BBQ and a Bosch Oven is that the base station may lose connection to the probes if there is anything, even a person in way of the line of sight. The signal is inhibited drastically by the probes being in anything metal.Other and far cheaper probes by comparison operate in 433Mhz ISM band which offers FAR greater penetration and range vs 2.4Ghz Bluetooth. The connection issues I experienced when cooking this Xmas period made me quite angry to be honest. How can such a premium product have such a technical flaw.

Funktioniert einwandfrei.

We’ve used the Meater Pro XL probes several times now, and truly love it. Last night we baked two chicken breasts in our electric oven, and it was the first time using the probes in the oven as opposed to on our Traeger smoker. The two chicken breasts were significantly sizes, and the Meater probes alllowed us to remove them individually at the right I’ve, with each one perfectly.I especially appreciate that the Meater Pro XL probes have multiple sensors in each probe, and report out the lowest temperature (in addition to the ambient temperature in the oven. I didn’t realize that the larger chicken breast was still partially frozen in the middle until I inserted the probe. The Meater notified me of this, showed the lowest temperature as 31.6 F, allowed me to track the cooking progress easily, and to remove each chicken breast when it was perfectly done. Thank you for such an amazing product!

As a loyal user of the original Meater Block, I have utilized it extensively since its purchase during a Father's Day sale a few years ago. However, I must express my profound admiration for the new Meater Pro XL. It has surpassed the original in every aspect where the latter fell short. In order to conduct a comparative analysis, I positioned both devices side by side within a substantial pork shoulder. My primary concern with the original Meater Block, which persists, relates to signal issues. While using my 1/4-inch thick steel offset smoker, I frequently encountered signal loss between the block and the probe. During a single smoking session with both devices, we counted over 90 instances of signal loss. At one point, the signal was lost for nearly an hour, necessitating the opening of my smoker to reestablish the connection. Although the original Meater Block performs admirably in the oven, gas barbecue, and another thinner-walled smoker that I own, I believe it was not specifically designed for substantial, thick commercial or competition-grade smokers constructed with 1/4-inch steel. The Meater probes XL maintained a consistent and reliable connection, without any signal loss, throughout the entire 9-hour smoking process. The new sensors are another significant advantage. The original had a single sensor about an inch away from the tip of the probe for internal temperatures, and an ambient sensor temperature sensor on the back end (the black part that honestly reminds me of electrical tape). The new Pro XL has five sensors in the front, spaced apart from the tip so you can get a better idea of how much longer your cook will take and an accurate reading of all depths. It's amazing how much technology they put into each probe, which are even thinner than the originals. The USB-C charging feature is a significant improvement over the previous model that required 4 AA batteries. While I initially had reservations about this change, I discovered that the USB-C port offers fast charging capabilities, providing 2 hours of cooking time with just a 5-minute charge and an impressive 24 hours of cooking time with a 30-minute charge. This feature greatly enhances the convenience and reliability of the device. Additionally, the USB-C port is a more durable and reliable charging port compared to the older micro USB port found on the OG Meater Block. The new pro XL Block has nearly double the heat rating, allowing for high-heat searing of steaks or open-flame cooking, which was not possible with the old model's 550°F limit. Exceeding that temperature could damage the probe. The new XL pros can withstand temperatures up to 1000°F and now feature true waterproofing, unlike the originals, which were only water-resistant. This enhanced heat tolerance and waterproofing even enable deep frying with the probe, marking a significant improvement. It is truly remarkable what Meater has accomplished with the probes. However, I must admit that I am slightly disappointed that, aside from the improved fit of the probes, there is minimal distinction between the blocks themselves. I had anticipated that Meater would invest some effort into upgrading the block's design. The outdated iPod-like touchscreen remains, complete with the same blinding red light that activates on start up. Regrettably, there are no discernible differences from the original model in this regard.Having said that, I typically connect my smartphone or tablet to the device, and Meater undoubtedly offers the superior app among all the wireless probes I have tested. Nevertheless, it would be gratifying to witness an update to the block, as its appearance feels exceedingly antiquated.Lastly, I would like to address the advanced estimator algorithm. Im likely nitpicking here, but It was never particularly accurate in the past, and it still struggles. It's never going to be able to predict stalls during extended cooking sessions, and is just really far off from start to end on the total cook time, with the exception of fast cooking a steak. Consequently, I never relied on it with the original model, and it appears that I will not be able to do so with the new version either, as there seems to be no significant improvement in this aspect as well. The Meater Pro XL has undergone substantial improvements, and I am thoroughly impressed with its capabilities. It is a long-term investment, although users of the original block may not find an upgrade necessary. I have made every effort to provide a thorough comparison based on my experience with both devices, which I sincerely hope will help in making your own decision.I would rate the Meater Pro XL 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you're looking to purchase a meater block for the first time, I absolutely recommend getting the new one over the original.
