In an effort to give a new lease of life to my beloved, last of the NA 6 cylinder breed 2005 E90 330i (90k miles), I've gone through replacing most of the usual wear items. The longish list includes items such as vanos solenoids, valve cover/valvetronic/eccentric shaft sensor gaskets, water pump & thermostat, ignition coils & plugs, rear wishbones, brake lines, stabiliser rods, A/T sump+filter+oil and whatnot. The car was running great but quite noisy in the engine bay.I then went on to further replace the tensioner and alternator pulleys along with the aux belt, making an absolutely massive difference in the noise levels - highly recommended. This alternator freewheel completed my current planned upgrades and further reduced the noise levels. It was quite a painful experience replacing the freewheel. There is a special 33 spline tool that needs to be combined with a long Torx T50 bit. The Torx bit is used to keep the alternator from rotating while the spline tool is rotated counter clockwise to get the old part off the alternator. However, it requires super human strength and I had to remove the alternator (took 10 minutes, not difficult with battery disconnected and removing 4 etorx bolts) to be able to apply sufficient torque using a breaker bar. I almost destroyed the torx bolt in the process but managed in the end. Tapping the bolt may help break some of the tension. Worth the effort.N.B. at least the E90 3-series came with two alternator brands, Valeo and Bosch. This freewheel is strictly for Valeo alternators and has the exact same part number the old freewheel clutch I took out had.
