This book has great tips for studying and learning based on scientific evidence. I appreciated how well laid out the content was, and that it has broken up the material with relevant pictures, illustrations, called out boxes, and summaries. It is best if Red together with your teenager. This way, you can both learn and help them cement the knowledge that this book imparts. Application of the techniques is then much more likely to take place.

I read this book while learning JavaScript, a programming language on my own, self-taught. The methods presented in the book are very useful and I still use some of them a year later after reading the book. I am 49 and even though the primary audience is teenagers, I would not let that stop you from buying the book. Good luck!

My motivation for reading this book is two fold. Firsltly, learning how to learn is the ultimate meta skill. I think of that classic quote “If I only had an hour to chop down a tree, I would spend the first 45 minutes sharpening my axe.” – Abraham Lincoln. Why not find out the most practical and effective way to learn and retain information and then apply that foundation to all of the things you want to lern and understand moving forward? And why not stat at the very beginning with a book that you wish you had had 20+ years ago.Secondly, I now have a daughter of my own and I hope that by learning the contents of this book I will be able to help her in practical and meaningful ways as she begins her life as a life long learner. This book is a fabulous resource for both. Not only is it succint, and packed full of pratical and applicable tips. Its written in a language that will make it easy for my daughter to understand and for me to explain. Its the perfect foundation as I now move on to more 'adult' resources - 'A mind for numbers' 'Deep work' 'So good they cant ignore you' 'Limitless' 'Remember it' 'Mastery' 'The art of learning'.I definitely recommend this book.

For what it's worth, even though I have a Ph.D in cognitive psychology , this book has stuff I didn't know. It's aimed at high school students, but is useful for any adult (including a geezer like myself). Simple (but that doesn't mean easy) things to do to make sure that you can learn and hold on to the learning. The author knows whereof she speaks - although she was absolutely no good at the sciences, she managed to learn enough about learning to earn a PhD in mechanical engineering. This stuff is not feel-good platitudes and theories. It's a bunch of recipes that work.
