What’s an absolute waste of money didn’t work and have to pay to return the item

Just had this for a couple of days now - enough time to download the app, get it setup and try a couple of test shots. This will be great for hyperlapse shots, but for panning video (which is mainly what I want it for) it's seriously compromised by having noisy gears. Maybe I have a faulty one? The sound of the gears working is clearly audible on playback. I'll try it with an external mic to see if that gets round the problem.

I thought I’d be able to use any lightweight camera on this and just control the spin with the app, but it requires the phone that runs the app to also do the recording/photos. I wanted this for capturing time lapse with a go pro and it appears I cannot do that. The app was not intuitive and crashed on me several times, so even if I wanted to use it with my phone, I’m not confident it would work reliably.

From the videos it looked like it had some potential so I gave it a shot. Well, I struggled to get this product to connect. Poorly made app really ruins the products usefulness. In addition to that, a phone's camera is the only way to make it work. If you could have used it sans phone and/or had the phone in your hand and a small camera on the device the utility would have been greatly increased. When it does work the movement is jittery, with a phone you can see the motors vibrations and jittery movement in you videos. As it stands it quite niche for youtubers and vlog people who solely rely on there phones for video and don't seriously care about the quality of the video. JOBY needs to do better but that's actually par for the course for this company. Like many of there other products, this is made for the amateur ... very entry level and will quickly be relegated to a drawer, seldom used once you've "played" with it for awhile.

I got sent this to review, it's a super portable rechargable panning base designed for phones (or very small cameras with a few drawbacks) to create timelapses. The pan base is well built, feels sturdy, and comes with a male 1/4 screw at the top for a phone holder or a camera, and female at the bottom for attaching to light stands or a tripod, or the base is flat for putting on a flat surface/table.There's a companion app for it too. The app is pretty well designed, it makes things very simple, with all the settings easily adjusted, so you can set your start and end points as well as your speed, and it records and saves the timelapse directly in the app. The drawback to this is as far as I can tell you don't have a choice of which camera to use (I have an iphone 13 pro so three cameras), but then it's rare you'd want to use the closeup one anyway so it's not a real drawback. The disadvantage to this approach is if you attach a separate camera to the panning base rather than a phone, the app isn't as useful as it's designed completely for using your phone for the timelapse. The other disadvantage is you can't use a third party timelapse app on your phone very easily either. So they made it simple to use but the sacrifice is that you can't so easily do more advanced things with it!But all in all, a great product, I use it consistently to get more dynamic BTS content on film shoots.
