This is an excellent Thunderbolt 5 dock, providing a decent selection of additional ports, and the ability to connect additional Thunderbolt devices to a single port on your Thunderbolt 5-equipped Mac.The dock is slightly larger than expected, and build quality is top notch, with an all-metal design that appears to be sufficiently rugged to handle day to day use for many years. However, claims of support for multiple Thunderbolt displays come with undocumented caveats.Specifically, if you want to connect dual Thunderbolt 5K or 6K displays to this dock, they will need to support display stream compression (DSC), which is indeed a feature of the Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR.However, prior to the release of the Studio Display, Apple promoted the LG UltraFine 5K, and that display does not support DSC.Therefore, the Ivanky FusionDock 3 can NOT support two of these LG UltraFine 5K Thunderbolt displays, and in fact if one of these displays is connected, the dock won’t be able to run any other Thunderbolt display simultaneously at all. Please be aware of this limitation before purchase (and it would be good if Ivanky would update their online documentation to reflect this constraint)

I am on the fence about returning this. It emits an annoying “coil-whine” noise that I can hear while working at my desk. It also seems to randomly wake up my monitor when my laptop is suspended.

Excellent device for using my MacBook Pro M4 laptop in my home office. Connection to the monitors and wired network was easy. Very convenient that it also charges my computer at the same time.

I have used many Thunderbolt 3/4 docking stations in the past, it was time to upgrade to Thunderbolt 5. In the past I have used:Caldigit TS3 - Great dock but dropped network when connecting a 2.5GBE to USB A adapter (known issue, search Reddit), and limited only 1x 10GBPS port.Caldigit TS4+ - Great dock, with the best port selection, but that TB4 dock cost more than this TB5 iVanky Fusion Dock Pro 3Startech TB3DK2DHV - Defective Ethernet Port (only speeds of 10/100mbps), and bad port selectionStartech TB3DOCK2DPPD - Horrible coil whine noise when laptop is plugged inStartech TB3CDK2DH - Great dock, no issues, just limited port selectionDevices Tested:-Works with Gaming Desktop (USB4 v1, 40gbps) desktop to output 2 displays.-Works with 2021 Macbook Pro w/ M1 Pro TB4 port - (USB4 Mode per MacOS)-Works with 2024 Mac Mini M4 Base model (USB4 Mode per MacOS)Works as expected.-Front facing TB5 Upstream port was important to make it easy to switch between computers (3x separate Thunderbolt cables)-1x USB Logitech C920 Webcam for video calls-1x 2K @ 165Hz Monitor connected via HDMI to USB C to rear TB port-1x 1080p @ 60hz Monitor connected via USB C to rear TB port - This monitor has a USB hub built in, monitor works great, powers all accessories including 2x dongles for Logitech Mouse + KeyboardPros:No coil whine - I've seen other users complain about the noise on this dock, I am very sensitive to high pitched noises like coil whine, and I am unable to hear any coming from this dock even in a silent room.* Note my laptop can only charge a max of ~90W, not sure if there will be coil whine if you have a laptop that can charge at the full 140W this dock can output - Just something to be aware of.-2.5gbe works as expected on both Mac + Windows-Front TB5 downstream port does up to 60w, can charge two Macbook Pros at the same time, however the Power supply brick is only 180w, so wont be at full speed.-Front USB A port does 15w of power, which is fast enough for most phones.Cons:Lots of empty space on the back, could have easily fit a 10gbps USB C + another USB A Port.Huge power brick 180w, but does not have enough power to charge both front TB port devices at full advertised speeds.

Update: 10-11-2024 - The replacement dock arrived the day after speaking to customer service, amazing! I have now had the new dock installed for a couple of months, and have only experienced a few disconnections, and I noticed they were specific to Solid State Drives or SSDs. It seems like an SSD compatibility issue as I have noticed SSDs can be flaky over time on other devices like my Samsung TV and PS5? My multiple regular magnetic hard drives do not have the same problem. So my conclusion is the dock works fine, but you may have occasional problems specific to SSDs disconnecting. Power recycling the dock reconnects the SSD. Dual monitors, Hard drives, keyboard & mouse, card readers, USB C, A, and Thunderbolt work fine. Overall still a good product. Back to 5 stars for the excellent customer service.Update: 10-09-2024 – Random DisconnectionsSome reoccurring issues to update on. I have a Macbook Pro M3 Pro 2024. I am currently using all of the 3no rear USB 10Gbps ports, the 2.5 Gigabit port, Dual monitors HDMI and rear USB-C 40gbps, the two upstream USB-C ports, and the front USB-C PD port. I have had the dock running 24/7 for just over a month now, and for the most part it has been fine albeit running a little warm for my liking, but not too hot to touch. However, during that time I have experienced some random disconnections of 3 external hard drives connected to the USB ports, while the monitors, keyboard, and mouse are fine. When this happens there is nothing else for it other than to power cycle the dock, and then the drives reconnect without a problem. This is annoying, especially when carrying out a large data transfer only to find that it has been interrupted because the dock disconnected midway through! The disconnections have occurred at least 3 times over a period of 5 weeks, so I decided to contact Ivanky and seek a solution. Ivanky responded the within 24 hours, and sent me a link to download the latest firmware to update the dock. As an IT professional I have carried out numerous firmware/software updates however, I could not get the firmware setup to initiate, I kept getting an error saying that the file was either damaged or corrupted? (This was the same error that I got with an earlier version of the firmware, when I attempted an update after I first got the dock)? Despite searching on Google/YouTube I could not find any solutions or workarounds to update the firmware.Eventually I gave up and contacted Ivanky again, they responded within 48 hours. Ivanky suggested exchanging the dock FOC for a new one, which I agreed to. I am waiting for Ivanky to get back to me with the shipping details.Although pleased with the dock's overall build quality and operation, I cannot ignore the random disconnects. I'll update on how the exchange goes and the performance once the new dock arrives, and I have soaked tested it for at least a month.Original review:This iVanky dock works like a dream, firstly it replaced my 100w charger, then I connected, a KVM, HDMI 4K monitor, USB 3.0 hub, GB ethernet, and 20w PD to a desktop wireless charger. Everything just works like a charm, no problems going into standby or waking up. Basically PnP, and forget. Top quality bit of kit.
