THE OLD PUMPI have a 14 YEAR OLD HOZELOCK pump which has run for over 50,000 hours! My 14 YEAR OLD pump still pumps well but it started to intermittently trip the circuit and I eventually got fed up trying to work out why. It is conceivable that the fault is in the wiring and the old pump is still perfect.THE NEW PUMPIt is lifting the water about 6ft along a 50ft 1.5" pipe. Water appears at the top within 1 second of switching it on.I did not hesitate to go for a HOZELOCK pump again; surviving 14 years of daily use installed under dirty water is a creditable achievement. I can only hope this new one lasts as long. When installed under water, it is effectively silent. My water feature contains lots of rotting leaves but the pump operates without complaint. The casing is effectively a coarse filter which eventually blocks enough to reduce the flow. When I spot the reduced flow I lift the pump out, hose down the casing and that is all. Very quick and easy. The impellor has wide clearances to avoid jamming (The old pump never jammed in 50,000 hours use).ONE TIP: Make a note of the serial number before you install the pump. You need that to register the warranty - just in case.

I gave had several of these pumps over the years, they never differ in quality, performance, build & pump functionality. Great value for money. Unfortunately just after we purchased this pump, our fish died, so this one has never been used.

I've had this pump for nearly a year now and couldn't be happier with it - I bought it largely because of the wildlife protection system it comes with - I had some very unfortunate incidents with several newts with my old pump - and I'm delighted to say that there have been no more untimely deaths or injuries with this one!! We have a small wildlife pond but have installed a stream running along most of the length of the garden (approx 12 metres) with a rise of around 1.5metres from bottom of pond to top of stream, so needed a pump with a bit of oomph to get the flow running properly. This is on all day and every day - I did initially wonder about the cost of running it - but now having a smart meter it barely registers on it. I noticed someone else mentioned that theirs rose to the top of the pond and floated - mine did this for the first time a couple of days ago - but just scraping off some of the leaves and gunk that had collected over it did the trick - I guess the build up had got bad enough that it was taking in more air than water for a while - incidentally I haven't actually cleaned it or anything since i've had it - and that used to be almost a weekly job with my old pump so I'm definitely not complaining!

I got this as a pond pump to provide aeration into a new waterfall feature. It's been in a couple of months now. The 40mm hose is about 8 metres long, and the waterfall outlet is about 2 metres above the pump.It is quiet enough not to be aware of it working, the flow rate is perfect for what I want, and has so far proved reliable even when tested.I left it running once, but my waterfall building skills meant some of the water was not going back to the pond. After half a day, the level had dropped a foot, and the pump was running near dry, but still gamely going. When I topped up the pond, all was well again. It was lucky I tied it to a cheap collapsible crate, to keep it out of the sludge at the bottom, which is why I didn't empty the pond. It needed a bit of prodding with a stick to stop the whole thing rising to the surface, but once fully primed it sank properly.

Purchased the Aquaforce 4000 to replace a Blagdon (of which I have had 3, all lasting just over 2 yrs). The Aquaforce has a large filter area, and since I installed it several weeks ago have not yet needed to clean the filter, where as with the old pump I would have to have cleaned the filter every week. The physical size of the pump itself is smaller than the Blagdon, if it lasts any longer it will be money well spent. My one gripe is that I did not get an invoice/delivery note with the package, so have no proof of purchase should I need to return it under warranty. I emailed the supplier but have had no reply. Five stars then for the product (so far so good) but two for the supplier.
