Der eTrex H ist das Basisgerät einer ganzen Modellreihe. Trotz seiner geringen Größe ist er mit allen wesentlichen Navigationsfunktionen ausgestattet und ermöglicht einen preisgünstigen Einstieg in die GPS-Navigation, sei es auf dem Wasser, zu Land oder in der Luft.
Mit der hochempfindlichen Empfangsantenne
sind auch in Schluchten und dichten Wäldern genaue Positionsbestimmungen möglich, mit seinen zwei Mignonbatterien arbeitet es bis zu 17 Stunden.
Die Vorderseite steht vollständig dem Display und der integrierten Antenne zur Verfügung, da die Bedienknöpfe auf den griffigen, gummiarmierten Seiten angebracht wurden.
Mit seinen zwei Mignonbatterien arbeitet es bis zu 22 Stunden, mit seiner 12-Kanaltechnik ebenso schnell wie empfangsempfindlich und genau. 95% der Messungen sind besser als 15m, also zumeist besser als die Zeichengenauigkeit der verwendeten Landkarte.
Der eTrex H GPS speichert bis zu 500 Wegpunkte,
die mit einprägsamen, vorgegebenen graphischen Symbolen versehen werden können. 50 Wegpunkte können zu einer umkehrbaren Route verbunden werden. Die Route kann z.B. der Weg vom parkenden Auto durch ein Gewirr von Waldwegen und Gebirgssteigen zu einer Hütte sein.

Ottimo strumento. Più di una volta mi ha tolto d'impaccio dandomi per lo meno una direzione ed un orientamento. Non è il top di gamma e si vede. La ricezione non è fenomenale, ed ha bisogno di qualche minuto a volte per triangolare la posizione. A volte sembra quasi non prendere, quando la vegetazione e fitta, o è un luogo particolare, ma basta attendere con pazienza e già triangolando con soli 4 satelliti ti consente di ritornare al punto di origine che hai impostato, che normalmente per me è dove ho parcheggiato l'auto. Lo adopero ormai da anni nel modo più semplice, segnando la posizione dell'auto all'inizio dell'escursione. Lo tengo spento e lo riaccendo quando mi serve ritornare, per risparmiare sulle batterie. Ti consente poi di avere la direzione del punto verso cui devi arrivare e soprattutto la distanza dal punto (se diminuisce significa che stai andando nella giusta direzione ovviamente). Questo perché è vero che ha tante funzioni, ovvero quasi tutto quello che possono fare i modelli superiori, ma purtroppo non ha una cartografia e non considera i dislivelli lungo la strada del ritorno ma è solo una bussola con la direzione dove devi andare. Ovviamente rileva anche l'altitudine nel punto in cui ti trovi e dei punti che hai memorizzato. E' un modello base e si vede nel tempo che impiega a ricevere il segnale, ma una volta agganciato funge bene. Dal design essenziale e spartano, è comunque funzionale ed efficace. Ottima la possibilità di collegarlo al computer tramite cavo usb mini type B come in foto. In questo modo ho salvato i percorsi ed i waypoint memorizzati nel tempo sul dispositivo. Le batterie stilo se nuove durano un numero sufficiente di escursioni, tenendolo sempre acceso, direi almeno 3-4. Con me porto sempre almeno un'altra coppia di batterie. Che dire, se non lo tengo con me non mi sento sicuro. Ovviamente c'è di meglio nella serie Garmin, ma tutto ha un prezzo.

GPS génial, pour la randonnée, et de surcroît pour le prix, car ce GPS est génial ; ce qui m'a le plus intéressé c'est la précision relativement aux traces enregistrées ( le backtack )! la possibilité de créer des routes à partir de toute une série de waypoints.... l'achat d'un cable prolific série-usb m'a permis sur un macintosh équipé de 10.4.11 de transmettre vers le GPS des parcours complets pré-étudiés en waypoints sur une carte ; dans le sens inverse je récupère des traces que je simule sur la carte ; j'avoue que j'ai galéré à tenter d'installer sur windows Xp le driver du cable, et c'est pour cette raison que j'ai choisi le mac....rien de plus simple, et pas de soucis de drivers non compatibles ; j'utilise loadmytracks version 3.1.2 pour les transferts et je compose et lis mes trajets avec l'url de new ClicGPS.... quoi de plus simple !Quant au driver pour os 10.4.11 , on le récupère facilement sur internet en version 3.1.2Donc une bonne note de 5/5 pour ce GPS, avec une livraison super rapide et dans les mains un produit d'excellente qualité au regard des nombreuses fonctionnalités offertes....seul petit point noir, les touches font mal aux doigts ; alors le transfert via Pc et selon la méthode ci-dessus se révéle très efficace !!La gamme GARMIN est vraiment séduisante et le legend etrex HCX me tente beaucoup et risque d'être mon prochain achat sur amazon, à cause du design, possibiliités, écran couleur et bien d'autres fonctions ...

Das eTrex H bietet alle Grundfunktionen die man zur GPS-Navigation benötigt, ganz ohne Schnörkel, kein Touchscreen, kein Klickybunti. An die 4 Funktionstasten (die I/O-taste nicht mmitgerechnet) hat man sich nach kurzer Zeit gewöhnt. Die Menus sind klar strukturiert und gut ablesbar. Die Akkulaufzeit liegt deutlich über 20 Std. und ist somit sehr gut. Darüberhinaus hat es einen erstaunlich guten Empfang (auch im Wald), der mit den Hi-End-Geräten von Garmin durchaus mithalten kann. Also rundum ein kleines handliches und funktionales Gerät, welches ich nur loben kann. Die negativen Seiten, die es zu erwähnen gilt betreffen das fehlende Datenkabel (seriell, RS 232) und die fehlende Software zur Trackverwaltung. Das Datenkabel muss man recht teuer nachkaufen, wer keine RS 232 mehr am Rechner hat braucht auch noch einen entsprechenden USB-Adapter. Das gute alte Mapsourceprogramm von Garmin liegt nicht mehr dabei, so dass man auf Software aus dem Internet angewiesen ist, wenn man seine Tracks und Waypoints auf den Rechner laden und verwalten will. Das ist eigentlich schade und nicht recht nachvollziehbar. Dafür gibt es auch 1 Stern Abzug für ein ansonsten sehr empfehlenswertes Produkt.

After almost getting lost on a night hike I wanted a GPS. I tried to use my Iphone 3GS but it wouldn't pick up the satellites under the trees in the Pacific Northwest forests. Plus, I had it in my pocket and fell on it, luckily I didn't break it.So, I wanted a waterproof, rugged, easy to use, reliable GPS that worked well under heavy tree cover. I couldn't be happier, this was cheap, and meets all of my requirements. I decided the black and white screen was fine, with backlight, and decided I didn't need all those other bells and whistles the expensive ones have. The lack of bells and whistles makes this easy to use. It has everything you need with tracks, routes, waypoints and track back.As other's have said if you want to load topo maps this is not the unit for you. But, if you simply want to be able to follow your route back home when hiking this is great! Other's also mentioned it does not come with a cable if you want to hook it up to the computer, but I see no reason to, it works perfect with the version of firmware it ships with and there are no topo maps to load. So, I never plan to hook it to a computer.The accuracy is amazing even under heavy trees with no view of the sky. With a clear view of the sky I get up to 13 feet of accuracy. In heavy tree cover I average around 50 feet, which is amazing without a view of the sky.Some people complained in reviews the system took forever to find the satellites. That must be from old firmware versions. I have version 3.30 on my unit and it took maybe two minutes to find the satellites initially if that. After the initial start up out of the box it usually takes around 30 seconds or so. The accuracy is amazing even inside my house.I HAVE A BIG WARNING ABOUT BATTERIES THOUGH: I had read some people complaining that the unit would shut off after a few hours with freshly recharged AA batteries. This system does not work properly with standard rechargeable batteries. The battery meter shows freshly charged batteries as being only 3/4 full, then the unit shuts after 3-4 hours of use. Luckily the system will save your tracks up until it dies, if you ever need to swap out batteries, just do so and you'll be up and running again, if you catch the fact that it died. Anyways, I used rechargeable batteries and had this problem. When I got home I thought it was a bad batch of rechargeable batteries, so I tried several other ones. I even tried my most powerful, Duracell 2650 mAh batteries with no better luck. So, I put some Costco Kirkland AA regular Alkalines that had been sitting in my house for a year, and tested it. I got 20+ hours of use. I'm going to try the Eneloop rechargeable batteries since their technology is more similiar to Alkalines as far as the device sees it. But, if that doesn't work I'll just stick with Alkalines.If you want a unit to follow your track so you can find your car, that is easy to use, accurate in a thick forest, water proof, rugged, and with a decent battery life (If using the right batteries), without needing a color screen, topo maps, or computer syncing, get this unit!!

Ich möchte hier nicht die Technischen Daten des Germin etrex H wiedergeben. Herzu gibt es in Netz reichliche Informationen. Vielmehr versuche ich euch bei der Kaufentscheidung zu unterstutzen. Ob das Gerät für die jeweilige Anwendung das richtige ist muss jeder anhand des Funktionsumfanges selber entscheiden.Das etrex H verfügt im Wesentlichen über GPS Basisfunktionen und ist ein idealer Ersatz für einen Faradcomputer. Hier kann es die Geschwindigkeit, gefahrenen Kilometer und vieles mehr anzeigen. Aus diesem Grund empfehle ich neue Geräte gründlich auf alle Funktionen zu prüfen. Ein einmal funktionierendes Garmin- Gerät hält dann allerdings ewig. Die Qualität ist also hervorragend.Anmerkung zu Amazon:Der Service von Amazon ist unübertroffen.Mein Gerät war defekt und Amazon versendet das Austauschgerät bevor ich meins eingesand habe. Update 2023:Vor 15 Jahren habe ich dieses Gerät gekauft.Heute gibt es USB und LiIon-Akkus und Touch Screen....Natürlich hat das Gerät das alles nicht.Aber es läuft bis heute - und wird auch bis heute von mir benutzt.Ich träume nur vom Touchscreen, weil die Tasten tun immer noch weh beim drücken.PS: Vor 15 Jahren hat es knappe 80 Euro gekostet. Just saying! Kauft euch was Modernes Leute!Auch wenn das Gerät wirklich top ist.-------------------Ich habe den Garmin eTrex H jetzt einige Zeit. Er ist robust, hat eine sehr (!) gute Empfangsqualität - im Gegensatz zu älteren Garmin-Produkten, die nicht zu der "H-Serie" gehören. Er funktioniert mitunter in Gebäuden (bei mir oberstes Geschoss, Altbau), problemlos im bergigen Wald, auch bei Bewölkung, und erfüllt seinen Zweck, Zielmarkierungen anzupeilen bis auf einige Meter genau.Eigentlich besteht der Sinn des Gerätes aus einem Pfeil, der in die Richtung des angepeilten Wegpunktes zeigt.Nun, aber das ist auch alles, was er kann. Ich hatte gedacht, dies würde auch reichen, um einfach wieder im Gelände zum Startpunkt zurück zu finden. Doch ist mir auf gefallen, dass es zudem schön wäre, auch mir noch unbekannte Zielpunkte anpeilen zu können. Da der eTrex H keine Karten speichern kann, bleibt das ein Traum...Die Bedienung finde ich zwar simpel, aber gewöhnungsbedürftig. Erinnert an Grafische DOS-Oberflächen, bei denen man sich merken muss wie man an welche Einstellungen kommt.Wen es nicht stört, dass man zudem viel Fingerkraft braucht, um die gummierten Tasten zu drücken (tut auch schon mal weh) und ein simples aber funktionstüchtiges und robustes Gerät sucht, um einfach zu einem markierten Punkt zu finden, der sollte zu Schlagen.5 Sterne, weil eben auch nicht mehr versprochen wurde, als das, was es leistet!Nachtrag: Man KANN unbekannte Punkte sehr gut anpeilen, da ich das Gerät neu hatte, wusste ich das nicht.Man muss nur die Koordinaten des anzupeilenden Punktes (umständlich) in das Gerät eingeben - und der Pfeil leitet einen dorthin. So wie es die GEO-Casher auch tun. Ich habe das erprobt mit eben diesen Gerät.

I bought one of these for a holiday in Marrakesh, Morocco. I was staying in a riad in the old part of the city, which is a maze of twisty passages, all alike, and I didn't fancy pulling out a map every few paces. Instead, I had this thing in my hand. It looks like a mobile phone from a distance, which is handy if you want to avoid being hassled by the "guides" who offer to take you to the best shop in town; just pretend that you're waiting for a phone call. Without the eTrex I would probably still be lost somewhere in the medina. There's no way to download a streetmap, although having said that there *aren't* any good streetmaps of the old part of Marrakesh - but I always found my way back home, or at least to somewhere I could visually identify. It was a bit like playing a computer game, where you have to follow waypoints.You can set the device to memorise tracks, but I never bothered with that, I used it as a simple direction finder. The compass is sometimes jumpy and you have to walk a few feet before it updates, and so in that respect it's not ideal for the kind of close-quarters environment of Marrakesh, where there is an intersection every few feet. The device tends to lose signal indoors or under cover, but it picks the signal up again quickly thereafter (there is a longer delay when you turn it first thing in the morning).Before the trip I spent a couple of hours on Google Earth, plugging latitude and longitude co-ordinates into it for e.g. the local train station, the edges of the city, that kind of thing. It's a shame the device doesn't have a USB port so that I could have downloaded things automatically without having to buy the special and expensive serial cable.As with all GPS devices, it has a clock that updates from the satellites. The backlight isn't quite powerful enough to use as a torch, although it is just enough to find the front door keyhole at night. I tended to keep it in my pocket and backpack, and yet it still works and doesn't have any scratches or dents; it's rubberised, and feels as if it would easily survive a drop onto the floor. I'm a bit dubious about the battery compartment cover - it's held on with a little metal pole that seems flimsy, but it doesn't wobble, and perhaps I'm being picky. The unit is weather sealed. The buttons are very stiff. Very stiff. Perhaps they will loosen with age, like a woman.I found that the battery life was enough for a full day walking around, with plenty left in reserve; I carried a spare set of batteries with me but never needed to use them. I suspect the batteries would have lasted for two days of constant hiking, but I never tested this. Unlike some electrical gadgets, it doesn't seem to drain the battery when it is turned off, or at least not to a noticeable extent.My only real gripes are that the waypoints are limited to six-character names (MARJNE and MENARA are fair enough, but I have no idea what I was thinking when I entered RBAKDM or CASMU), and it's a shame there are only 200 waypoint slots. Given that each waypoint consists of a six-character name, an elevation, and a pair of co-ordinates, it can't be all that hard to stick in a larger memory chip and have e.g. 200,000 waypoints. 200 slots is a lot, but I have filled fifty of them with places in Morocco - there are other places in the world that are just as interesting, and what if I fill up the memory? Will I delete Morocco? The alternatives are to either buy an expensive computer interface cable, or transfer the co-ordinates to my computer by typing them up, which would be boring.It would be nice if the next version has a much larger memory, an eight-character name limit, a USB port (with perhaps an option to import and export waypoints as simple comma-separated text), and if it was available in a range of colours, such as green or blue or white or pink (for the ladies).
