The water rolls off the mat of doing dishes.. It will absorb some but it gets the counter wet around it. I bought an absorbant foamy mat to put on top, not all is good, but it ended up expensive to make it work..

Edit: Product is not well made for dishes. After about 2 months of moderate use, the top coat of the mat is peeling off. I stopped using it and bought a regular dish drying rack instead. I can see it working better under a coffee maker but not sure about its heat resistance. I'd only recommend for very light-duty use.Original Review: Product is minimal and stylish. It does work, but not as well as the description would have you believe. If using to dry dishes, make sure you check underneath as water will pool under the mat. I often hang it to dry between uses.

These are the best mats I have ever purchased for the kitchen. They dry so quickly it’s crazy and the counters are perfectly protected. They wash up so easily too and the look so great. I will purchase a back up pair.

This has replaced the fabric one we used to have. Love that this absorbs all the water and easily wipes clean. It looks much better on our counter
