In summary:This product is good for gardening geeks and nerds that just want to optimize their watering process at whatever cost and don't mind buying into a complex ecosystem and tinkering. It's probably not ideal for someone looking for a new watering wand to wet their plants.In detail:I'm not sure why they felt the need to separate the on/off from the flow rate. It can be a bit difficult to get used to. Aside from that I find that it allows for fairly precise adjustment from very little water to as much as an open hose, all while maintaining the angel-hair consistency needed to avoid moving too much soil or damaging sensitive plants.The Gardena system overall is a mixed bag. I've had to buy special adapters to make their own products work with their own hoses (e.g. the sprinkler timer) and I've found that set-up can be an interesting puzzle. However, once I get all the right stuff in the right configuration, it makes keeping my plants and lawn watered a breeze. I do enjoy the quick-swap functionality between items. Just know: if you get this one, it's not nearly as great unless you buy into their whole ecosystem and spend many hours setting it up. Think of it more as a piece of innovative technology in a new ecosystem, like an Apple Watch, rather than just a nozzle. If you get the Apple Watch, you need an iPhone, and you should probably have a Macbook and and iPad. This is why I go Android/Windows/Samsung for my tech. More freedom. It's too bad I don't know of a more-open ecosystem for gardening geeks that wouldn't require even more configuration.

We have gone through many wand style watering devices. None last very long as one part or another fails. I decided to see if the Gardena was good enough to merit the extra price. I have other Gardena products and they have all exceeded my expectations. This time I was only looking to have my expectations met and they have been! The quality of materials and workmanship are visible immediately and the quality of the spray pattern is better than any wand we have owned before. I can't comment on the frost proof aspect. Though I live in Wisconsin (or perhaps because I do live in Wisconsin) I am always carful to protect all watering devices from September on.
