The bowls are 18cm and from googling it seems that providers of eco plates and bowls there are some sites where a pack of 50 are the same price as these are selling for a pack of 10, so they seem a bit overpriced. But in terms of the bowls themselves then they are great quality, don't splinter and dont give off a taste onto the food, so won't ruin a meal.

These aren't going to win much in the way of awards for elegance, but as a practical and environmentally friendly alternative to plastic picnic bowls they're just the thing.Given what they're made out of I was a bit dubious about the soup claim, but the can easily hold boiling liquid for long enough to eat it and then some. As a test I put some boiling water in one a few hours ago and it's still there without any leakage or dampness on the outside whatsoever. The bowl now feels a bit more flexible than it did before but it's still usable as a bowl. Just out of curiosity I put one in the dishwasher to see what would happen. Unsurprisingly, it came out as a single piece of soft material which could be easily folded up and put in the food recycle bin.

Good sized and shaped bowl. About the size of a Denby style pasta bowl.Used these at a party for serving some of the food items.Impressed with durability. Held liquid based foods without becoming soggy.Durable enough to actually clean out and re-use.So really good for half-way house if you don't know if you may or may not dispose. At around 10GBP for 10 comes in price range for plastic based, durable disposable bowls. Good option if to want to be eco-friendly.

The product headline description refers to these bowls as bamboo, then later describes them as made from naturally fallen Areca palm leaves. That got me wondering how sustainable they actually are, so I looked up the subject and can confirm that the Areca palm does regularly shed leaves of it's own accord. As for the bowls, they are nice and rigid and should prove good for a variety of hot and cold foods, and also make a nice showpiece container for table snacks like crisps, nuts and olives. They are designed for single use and then disposal (ideally on the compost heap or in food waste recycling). I plan to re-use any that haven't been used for holding greasy/sticky foods though, if they can be rinsed clean and dried easily, for seed sowing trays in spring. It will be an experiment, but they should be okay buried direct in the soil without transplanting any seedlings, since they are recyclable and will break down as seedlings grow and roots penetrate the base.
