Mark has a way of putting things that is uniquely Mark, that’s not to say I agree with everything but the current world we live in with people getting upset over nothing, the ‘Karen’s’ screaming rages, Marks reason for why this is happening is totally spot on! I thought pretty much the same for a couple of years but Mark puts it far more eloquently. On AI, will not happen today but his vision of events may be closer to the truth than many realise in the long term.

The whole premise of the book is the escape from the self because, wait a minute, there is no self! Humandom, for some unknown reason has unleashed hell upon itself, because of this monster called AI. Yes, it is important to realise that things will not be the same as life was before AI but then, perhaps it is just like the advent of light (electricity) or the phone. Yes, references to Nietzsche and Kant make things interesting but what I especially liked was the way in which this was done, with new interpretations of Kant, Nietzsche and this might be remarkable by and in, itself.Let us now hope the prediction in this book doesn't come true...Arunav Barua

If you’re read Malcolm gladwell and books that cover human behavior you have to read both of this guys books. He is better than any of these other authors because he is a straight talker who mixes humor in his writing. He touches topics that no one else has the guts to do. Mansons’books are worth every cent. Manson write another one!Simon Finlayson

A great work! I rarely reread a book immediately after finishing it, but I did now.In essence, Mark has reinvented Buddhism: 'pain is the universal constant of the human condition' - aka Buddha's first noble truth. He also shows us the way out: 'Don't hope for better. Just BE better' - which you could read as the short version of Buddha's noble eightfold path. And he backs it up with science that the Buddha did not have.Humorous, critical, well researched - the book has about 300 footnotes, many of them to scientific publications. A masterpiece!

Written in the author's unique style, this work feels less polished than his last work. It doesn't flow as well and many elements have the feel of being thrown together. Although the Feeling and Thinking brain topic is interesting it has been covered a lot in recent years. I do enjoy authors who challenge status quo thinking and I commend him for trying to do that. It just falls a little short this time. Nothing to do with my rating, but I don't share his conclusions around AI. Anything containing the word, 'artificial' has never proven to be worthwhile and I don't think humans take kindly to any intelligence telling us what to do, even if it's super. It's through our imperfections we have constant opportunities to grow, even if we suck at it. Most of all, we already have a perfect intelligence to learn from. Nature is our greatest teacher. It contains all we need to know to grow as a human race and yet its message of harmony has not been able to penetrate our greed. Perhaps, climate change effects are its wake up call.

This book doesn't glorify the idea of hope. It rather make the dark side of hope pretty evidently visible. This book is not gonna give you any hope. If you are looking for hope, this is the last book you should read. This book tells you to choose your pain over pleasure. However, I had a great time reading it, and I would totally recommend this book.
