The stand works for what it is intended, it holds an open book and other small items.Looking at the description pictures closely I can see the indentations of the nails on the top but I did not pay such close attention to that when I ordered. I understood it is made with natural pine but the detail notes say it is ready to give as a gift and in my opinion that is not true if it has three wholes where nails where placed. This is sturdy and functional but needs holes filled in, a good sanding and finish. I think it is too expensive for what it is.

I can't attest to how this stand works for books, but I imagine it would be fine. That's not what I use it for, though. I use it to display loaves of focaccia bread at our farmers market stall. Those loaves can be a little heavy, but this stand holds them in place nicely without slipping on the counter. The wood is attractive and the stand is well made. The price is a little high for what is essentially a block of unfinished wood, so I don't know that I would buy it again. It does the job which is why I'm giving 4 stars.

Go to your Dad’s workshop, grab a couple of leftover wood pieces, and make this yourself. This is plain pine. Don’t get me wrong, I love pine, it’s a nice light wood. But this is rough. It hasn’t been sanded nearly enough. Any varnish is so thin that it may as well not be there. And if it’s there, I can’t tell.I like the idea of this. And once I finish the work needed, it’ll be nice. Until then it sits in the craft room waiting for me to make this usable.Source: I grew up in my Dad’s shop with him doing woodworking. This would never have passed his quality check.

Not really sure what to say! I like the look and function of this book stand - it can hold a regular book or an e-reader/tablet so you are covered for all your literary needs. It looks like it would be made of unfinished wood based on the color, but there is definitely some sort of finish on it. It’s not rough to the touch, and it’s a bit weirdly textured like it’s got a laminate or veneer on the outside? Either way it is very sturdy, can hold the weight of a large tome. Yet quite compact when not in use. My one complaint is that it slides around a bit on a smooth surface but that issue is easily solved by attaching some cheap rubber sticker feet. I’ve seen a lot of these sorts of book stands and I really don’t need one with a cup holder or engravings! This one is just a book rest (and tablet rest) and I appreciate that.
