It will throw down to 1/8th oz after that youre really going to struggle .Its good for its price. There are however better but those lie in the hundreds of dollars.

UPDATE 2: I wanted to come back and update this review as my son and I have been fishing with 3 of these BFS reels for several months. We have them paired with a 5'6" medium moderate, a 6'6" medium fast, and a 7' medium fast. We have used and abused these reels and they are still as smooth as butter and working flawlessly. Have caught many 2lb bass and up to 6lb bass using finesse bait with zero issues. I am going to get a couple more of these reels for the future.UPDATE 1: I have recently started fishing with bait cast reels. I have been fishing for 50 years and never took the time to learn. I have only been bait cast fishing for a couple years, and for me to be able to use this reel at all just blows my mind. I paired this reel with a Berkley Lightning 6'6" medium rod. I just took this reel out for the first time for a day of fishing. I tied on a 1/16th oz jig head with a 2.8" Salmo swim bait. I set the brakes at 4.5 and had the spool tensioner crazy loose. I am not kidding when I say I was casting consistently 60' all day. Not one backlash. This is hands down the best $40 I have ever spent on fishing gear.This shallow spool reel is made specifically for BFS fishing. If you do not know what that is then learn about it before you buy this. I bought the KastKing Zephyr and it never did work properly. The spool tensioner goes from too tight to too loose with one click. Needless to say I cannot use it for BFS fishing because I cannot cast anything under 1/4 oz. In comes the GKA200. I am able to cast 1/8th oz baits 40-50' with hardly any effort in my front yard on the very first casts. After awhile on the water and messing with the settings I will easily be able to cast 60'. The bearings are smooth with zero back spin. 20# of drag, are you kidding me!. Of course I will not use that much drag on the shallow spool. But, with 50# braid on the deep spool this reel doubles as a punching reel. Before you go out and spend $200 on a Shimano or other big name BFS reel, or even $80 on the Zephyr, spend $40 on this reel and try it.

I love the reel till the handle knobs feel apart. I replaced it and still use the reel. Great for micro/ light lures.

I bought this reel specifically to use the shallow spool as the main use for it . It was not in the box that was still factory sealed . The deep spool was the only one in the box . I contacted the seller , who never responded . I can buy shallow spools for it for under $20 shipped but I'm not sure if I'm going to . Here's why .I loaded the deep spool with 30# braid and took it for a spin , casting lures from 1/8 oz to 1/2 oz and it performed very nicely . I have a Lightning Rod pistol grip that got broken off at an eye and right at 5' , making it the perfect length for my kayak fishing instead of my 5' spinning rod/reel combo.The drag click reminded me of the bite alarm on my Zebco 303 reel . I guess that'll be useful of I ever go catfishing or carp fishing . Speaking of clicking , the spool tension click is suuweet in how well it works , allowing me to extra fine tune the tension . On the opposite side though the adjuster for the magnets felt as sounded cheap and plasticy , which is the total opposite of everything else about the reel .I'll probably keep it and use it as a kayak reel because what was included works very well and what I cast today falls pretty much into the weight range in my kayak tackle box of unweighted and weighed worms and other soft plastics , frogs and a few shallow diving crack baits . I never tried any of my heavier lures so I can't speak to how far it'll cast spoons and lipless crank baits but 3/8oz frogs went a country mile with no backlash .It's a good looking , great acting , quality feeling reel that casts buttery smooth and extremely quietly .Edit : It turns out to get the extra spool was another thing altogether and at the time of purchase they were out of the one with shallow spool BUT the seller provided me a way to purchase the shallow spool so I've raised my stars to 5 .

I bought the purple 8.1 gear ratio, left hand DOVIELLO GKA200. I had 3 hiccups ordering the correct reel from Amazon. Amazon kept sending me the wrong right hand purple reel. Finally, Amazon got it right and sent me the correct left hand reel I wanted...after calling customer service to insure the 4th time was the charm.Now about the reel.I had an amazing largemouth bass catch today, June 10, 2023. I used the shallow BFS spool for the DOVIELLO GKA200 to fish a 1/8oz Rapala Countdown Minnow. I had the reel mounted on an Abu Garcia Volatile 6'9" medium light casting rod.I casted the Rapala lure and hooked into a small trout. As I got the trout close to shore, it caught the attention of a bass. The trout went into weeds and as I pulled it out of the weeds, that's when the bass pounced on the trout, swallowedit head first. I let line out for a bit so the bass wouldnt let go of the trout and make sure the trout was in its mouth....then set the hook. I actually had the trout and bass hooked together for a few seconds as I fought both fish. I lost the trout but still had the bass and I fought the bass for a few minutes to tire it out. It did jump a few times and got me worried that the bass would pop off, but the GKA200 reel it helped keeping the bass pinned with the lure in its mouth. Bass I caught was a 9-10lb bass! One of the biggest bass I've caught! I also caught another trout and the reel did it's job exquisitely!The DOVIELLO GKA200 reel casted my light lures wonderfully. It took me a few casts to figure out the magnetic braking and what setting worked with light lures. The construction of the reel is great. Quite light in weight, very good braking and has drag sound that was helpful for me to adjust the braking strength to fight that huge Bass. The 8.1 gear ratio is quite fast in retrieving, I had to slow down my reeling with the light crankbait to get the interest of a trout. For a graphite frame reel, the frame did not have any flex and everything about the reel just worked to help me land that bass.I wasn't sure about a BFS reel that is inexpensive to be very well made. I do own a few high end BFS reels and the DOVIELLO GKA200 reel is just as well made as those high end reels.For those who want to get into BFS fishing and also be able to use a reel for heavier lures, the DOVIELLO GKA200 is hard to beat for price and quality.The DOVIELLO GKA200 gave me one of the best fishing memories, witnessing a hooked trout getting eaten by a huge bass, and then catching that said bass!I thank you DOVIELLO for the great baitcast reel!
