I had a stuck pitman arm, a 5 ton haudraulic press / puller was unable to release it, no amount of heatinng seemed to help. After being told this would be the kit to do the job, I gave it a try before resorting to cutting the arm and replacing it. The adjustable puller looked like it would work the best, but that would not release the pitman arm either, I resorted to the larger or the 2 U shaped pullers, just when i thought I could not get any more tension on the puller the arm released. dont waste time or money on other kits, for pitman arms and ball-joints go with this, its a tool you will use again and agin for those jobs.The quality is very good and is proven in its ability to handle even the toughtest stuck joints.

I got this to help me changing parts of a classic vehicle.The set is well made and feels heavy duty, for the price they are good value for the amount you get.I've tested some of the pullers on some stubborn ball joints on my vehicle and they have performed perfectly on the old joints.For occasionally DIY use these are perfect and with the different variety of pullers there should be no issue removing stubborn joints.

For the price this is a decent set of pullers, though the casting quality and coarseness suggests they will only really be up to the task on relatively easy joints - I am particularly concerned by the thread quality under high torque applications.Shape and fit for the fixed pullers is obviously down to your application, but appropriate to the tie rod on my PT Cruiser for example.The jaws are reasonably easy to hold in place while setting tension and feel sturdy enough, whereas the balljoint splitter feels a little unfinished. It's still better, in my opinion, than the whack-with-a-hammer wedges.The case is moulded and should survive a couple of years of occasional use. My main concerns are around the casting quality if corroded tapers mean involving a hammer, and the impact that has on the thread quality for tools where the threads have to take a lot of torque. I wouldn't trust these driven by an air wrench/driver. But you get what you pay for with tools and these will be alright for home mechanics and DIY dabbling.

I have now had the opportunity to put a couple of the separators to the test and the smallest of the two pullers. I had to replace a couple of steering joints on my car. Not the most arduous task but they did the job as expected. The smallest fixed puller worked well to remove a wiper blade which had jammed on its splines. The second (larger) fixed puller has no more than 6 cm width clearance and about 3 cm depth before it tapers in, so its use may be limited on some cars.The larger of the two ball joint splitters has two positions for its pivot point which gives it a little more clearance for bigger joints though not significantly and beyond light commercial vehicles it is not likely to find much use. These really are tools for passenger cars – if they fit anything else it will be a bonus.I have not had chance to try the adjustable puller. Obviously it has the advantage of being adjustable but I would not expect it to be much use opening beyond 10 cm because of the shape of the jaws and the end of the jaw (the part which is going to be doing the pulling) is quite thin and the contact area will reduce as the jaw has to be opened for wider tasks.If this collection works for your vehicle they are good value but I think you would, like me, find the larger fixed puller and the adjustable puller of fairly limited use. If you have more than one vehicle this set could make more sense but I tend to improvise with what I have and buy individual tools as I really need them. The joint splitters in the kit should work on most cars but the pullers are likely to be hit or miss and you are probably better buying a puller for the job as and when you need it. Often you find a tool or set of tools you bought thinking it would be handy for an emergency just doesn't work out and with various tool retailers open over the week end a repair which comes up on Friday afternoon no longer means waiting until Monday to get the tools you need. If you buy this set it may work for you and your vehicle but I think there is a real risk you could still be left scratching around because what you have just doesn't quite fit. Buying this set is not like buying a set of wheel bearing pullers where you have dozens of permutations available in the one case and can feel confident that whatever you are faced with you can deal with it.An assessment as to durability on this set can't be done over night. These pullers are steel but not hardened steel. Whilst I was examining them I noticed a piece of swarf at least 1 cm long on the top of the bolt (which unlike the body of the puller is hardened steel) of the smallest puller. I had to cut it off and file the top of the bolt to remove the remaining piece of swarf. That sort of finish is not acceptable and could have been very unpleasant had I not noticed it before it had sunk into my finger.As I have said, they may work for you but, equally, some of them may be of limited use.
