I bought this as an upgrade from the far cheaper and similar looking (but orange) AC1200. Both devices are good, but this is far faster, is better with weak signals and has more features.When I used a 2.5 inch hard drive on it, I needed to use the supplied power supply.Ideal to use on shared hotel networks, and especially good for those awful networks with web page sign in because your devices are all behind a firewall, and one login (eg from a phone) allows all your devices to be online. (Even those that you couldn't normally use) Both network ports can be used when WiFi provides internet.

Lets me use a firewall to provide my own IP ranges within my caravan whilst still using a common IP address range provided by the caravan site owners. What I mean is everybody else is on the same IP range and can 'see' each others shared IT assets such as printers etc. Not secure but it is free. Using this unit I now have a firewall between me and them and it provides my own range of IP addresses to my devices. I then use a separate VPN to access the Internet so anybody trying to eavesdrop just sees encrypted traffic. thi s overkill but I work in security so paranoia is my first and last name. Nice piece of kit - easy to setup. Note: Make sure you apply the latest firmware updates before you use it.

Descubrí esta marca hace unos meses y decidí probarla.Empecé por un router casero y una repetidor que funciona en malla con el router, permitiendo tener cobertura de WiFi en todas las plantas de la casa.Más adelante adquirí este dispositivo de viaje, que resulta que puedes usar en casa también dentro de la malla creada con el router principal.Es pequeño, silencioso, muy rápido y usando VPN Wireguard alcanza velocidades bastante decentes, por encima de 300Mbps sin problema en hoteles y aeropuertos.El sistema operativo por debajo es OpenWRT y te proporcionan una firmware-puente si quieres instalar una versión sin la capa de personalización.

Das Gerät lässt sich aufgrund seiner Merkmale sehr vielseitig einsetzen, nämlich als Router und Zentrale für ein größeres WLAN-Netzwerk, als kleiner Router zum Mitnehmen auf Reisen (mit VPN-Verbindungen nach Hause) oder auch nur als Zentrale für ein WLAN-Mesh Netzwerk. Als Firmware wird ein vom Hersteller jedenfalls optisch angepasstes OpenWRT verwendet und das bietet eine Menge Features, die normale deutsche Router nicht haben. Zum Beispiel ein separates Netzwerk nur für Kleingeräte (ioT), das aus Sicherheitsgründen getrennt vom sonstigen Netzwerk ist. Die VPN-Verbindung lässt sich beispielsweise aus einer FRITZ!Box/Wire-Guard als Datei auslesen und direkt in den Router einspielen. Sehr praktisch, sehr einfach und läuft absolut stabil. Auf diese Weise kann der Router bei uns beispielsweise im Ferienhaus den VPN-Zugang für alle angeschlossenen eigenen Geräte in fremder Umgebung zum heimischen Netzwerk vermitteln und zwar ohne jeden merkbaren Geschwindigkeitseinbruch. Ob man das will, ist eine andere Frage. Aber bei uns laufen im heimischen Netzwerk zum Beispiel auch Werbeblocker und zusätzliche Netzwerkdienste, sodass eine VPN Verbindung für größeren Komfort und Sicherheit ohnehin sinnvoll und daher Standard ist.Ich habe testweise auch die als Open Source erhältliche Version von OpenWRT aufgespielt. Das war mir aber von der Konfiguration her viel zu kompliziert, sodass ich (was alles relativ einfach möglich ist) wieder auf die originale Firmware des Herstellers zurück gegangen bin.Performanceprobleme oder irgendwelche technischen Schwierigkeiten konnte ich im Alltag an keiner Stelle feststellen. Durch die 2,5 Mbit Anbindung auf der WAN Seite kann das Gerät gut auch eine größere Menge von Clients versorgen. Natürlich wird man das Gerät mit nur einem internen Port nicht als Zentrale für ein größeres kabelgebundenes Netzwerk verwenden. Aber für ein WLAN-Netzwerk, als Ergänzung zu einem fremden Router, den man nicht verwenden will oder kann außer für den Internetzugang etwa im Hotel oder in einer fremden Wohnung, als Zentrale eines eigenen WLAN innerhalb eines größeren Netzwerkes oder einfach nur auf Reisen für einen schnellen und sicheren Internetzugang ist das Gerät Spitze. Besonders schön finde ich, dass die Stromversorgung über einen USB-C Anschluss erfolgt, sodass man das Gerät entweder über einen entsprechenden Port eines anderen Gerätes (Laptop, Router, Standard-Netzteil) und damit sehr flexibel und einfach mit Strom versorgen kann. Sozusagen ein Schweizer Taschenmesser für den Internetzugang mit WLAN.Das Mesh funktioniert (wie zu erwarten ist) nur mit Geräten desselben Herstellers. Access-Points anderer Hersteller wie Devolo, AVM/Fritz oder TP-Link ließen sich zwar anschließen, haben dann aber keine Mesh-Funktion. Für den gedachten Anwendungsfall ist dies aber unerheblich. Man wird sich entweder für die eigene Wohnung einfach Access-Points desselben Herstellers kaufen oder aber draußen in der fremden Wüste mit dem zurechtkommen, was man vorfindet an Geräten.

I have a VPN set up at my home. Lets me access my network, attached storage and all the other things inside my network, such as printers. I hooked it up to a wired connection, configured it as a router, which is the only way you can get the VPN to show up. It will not show up as an access point. I can figure everything easily with their wizards, and in no time I was up and running. I have four different computers at my summer home, all linked through this unit to the VPN. it has a very fast processor. There’s no lag, and just overall it performs great. I strongly recommend as long as you have a wired connection. I assume if you don’t, you could probably buy a cheap access point and then come out of the wired connection on the access point to this router. That’s probably a workaround though I have not tested it.
