Cambridge Audio AXN10 ReviewThe full sized AXN10 and its mini-sized MXN10 are essentially a no frills cut down version of the Cambridge CXN100 the successor to the widely acclaimed and highly ubiquitous CXNV2 streamer.When I say no frills - for about half the money of the CXN100 - £450 instead of £900 the AXN10 / MXN10 gives you the high-end core streamer capabilities of CXN100 without the frills such as the ability to use it as an external DAC as the AXN10 / MXN10 only has digital outputs and no digital inputs, not so many output options. Also, there is no handy nice colour display and jog wheel on the front panel with everything on the AXN10 entirely controlled via Cambridge’s smart phone app rather than the front panel or via a remote. The good news is by sacrificing the addons, the AXN10 apparently does not compromise one iota on sound quality as Cambridge say that sonically the AXN10 / MXN10 is the same as CXN100. Ok a YouTube review from an American hi-fi retailer did say that they could tell a slight sonic inferiority for the AXN10 / MXN10 compared to the CXN100 but only when tested on a $40,000 (£36,000) state of the art hi-fi system!!!! which means for most of us they are indeed practically identical unless your hi-fi components cost tens of thousand pounds each.The build quality is very good, and it looks great and with no front display it looks very audiophile minimalist in the tradition of NAD which Cambridge have somewhat emulated, but its silver facia makes it look more classy, refined and upmarket. The only thing where the front display would have come in useful was the initial installation using the Cambridge app where configuring the network setup might have been more reliable as would a PC web interface in addition to the I-Phone and Android smart phones and tablets.My Android phone hung up after adding my Wi-Fi key and I had to reboot the phone and when I restarted the app, I kept getting a message saying my device was not configured and prompting me to press OK which either didn’t respond or would hang or freeze. Eventually after a load of reboots I reset the AXN10 and rerun the set up via the app and finally all was well at least, so I thought. I found that running the Cambridge Streammagic app hanged my Nokia 2.4 Android phone, so I ended up purchasing an Android tablet and since then all is fine.So, after getting it up and running how does it perform? The simple answer is extremely well. The app is intuitive and easy to use. How does it sound? very good so far - I have only listened to MP3 on a USB Stick and internet radio - and gives it gives a full bodied & dynamic sound and quite a thrilling and engaging listen. On Classical recordings & soundtracks and ambient house and techno, the strings sound lush and sweet rather than the harsh and brittle sound on cheap streamers and cymbals suffer much less from the woolly sock effect even on lower bit rate files. The bass is nicely refined – clearly punchy and well separated. On rock and pop recordings vocals are very up front and centre stage.It’s hard to say whether MP3s ripped from my CD collection – usually at 192kbs, 256kbs or 320kbs sound better or worse than playback from my Marantz CD6003 CD player. Obviously, the process of ripping a CD and encoding MP3s removes data (musical information and sound frequencies that we apparently don’t notice) during the compression process even if the Cambridge streamer can extract more detail from an MP3. The main thing is what I have listened too generally sound very good with any sonic loss is seemingly minimal which means that there is little or no trade-off between sound quality and convenience: yes with the AXN10 / MXN10 you can have your cake and eat it.Given that Amazon are selling the AXN10 / MXN10 for a £349.00 – a hundred quid less than is recommended retail price – this is an excellent piece of kit

Excellent lecteur audio. Facile à configurer.

Lo utilizzo in accoppiata con l'ampli AXA35, devo dire che sono soddisfatto. Ovviaamnte per la musica in straeming deve essere usata la versione apagamento in cui la qualità audio beneficia delle caratteristiche del AXN10. Anche esteticamente l'accopiata AXA35 - AXN10 è davvero notevole.

- Das Gehäuse steht schief. Fällt von vorne betrachtet im HiFi Rack sofort auf- Das Gehäuse hat scharfe Kanten bzw Grate von der Verarbeitung an den Kanten der Front- Das Blechkleid schließt nicht schön an die Front an. Bei meinem Gerät konnte man ein Geldstück einwerfen.- Die Bedienapp ist zum abgewöhnen.Ich habe ihn zurückgeschickt. Ein Raspberry Pi mit MoOde ist an seinen Platz getreten. Das Gehäuse ist ebenfalls nicht schön, lässt sich aber aufgrund der Größe prima verstecken. Dank Digitalausgang war die Klangqualität absolut identisch.

Difficile spiegare una valutazione di un prodotto che sulla carta fa tutto... ma lo fa pochino e male. Non perchè si sente male, anzi; ma perchè, per come è stato concepito, non serve praticamente a niente o meglio è al pari di un comune ricevitore con DAC.Mi spiego. Avevo intenzione di collegare l'AXN10 per resuscitare un mio vecchio amplificatore Maranz e volevo sfruttarlo per accedere ai miei contenuti sulla NAS (e parzialmente su Spotify free). L'AXN10 infatti è un device che aggiunge alle funzionalità di streamer, DAC e di ricevitore bluetooth/cast anche l'accesso alla rete: quindi tra le varie cose, dovrebbe accedere alle varie risorse presenti in rete, tra le quali le NAS. Lo fa? Ni... solo se la NAS supporta il protocollo DLNA; l'SMB (protocollo primario di una qualunque NAS) non è proprio supportato e questo è folle. Per quanto riguarda Spotify, invece, l'AXN10 funziona solo come ricevitore bluetooth/cast e non come streamer: infatti non è in grado di accedere al servizio in autonomia, ed è necessario che sia lo smartphone a leggere e ad inviargli il flusso dati; invece per i servizi come Tidal e Qobuz l'AXN10 è un vero streamer perchè ci accede direttamente e il cell diventa solo un telecomando.Sulla carta tutto fantastico... ma se voglio riprodure i brani dalla NAS e da Tidal/Qobuz in modo nativo (per cui l'AXN10 abbiamo detto accede ai servizi direttamente), lo posso fare utilizzando esclusivamente l'app StreamMagic; quest'app ha vari difetti... ma quello più fastidioso ed evidente è che manca completamente la funzione di "shuffle". Quindi sono costretto ad aggiungere i brani alla coda, uno alla volta, secondo i miei gusti, per non dover sentire le canzoni in sequenza. Folle.In alternativa, se voglio sfruttare le funzionalità delle app come Qobuz/Tidal (e Spotify obbligatoriamente) dallo smartphone (come per esempio lo shuffle!), lo posso fare inviando il flusso dati via bluetooth o cast e quindi uso il cell non solo come telecomando ma anche come streamer. Lo stesso dicasi per i brani presenti nella NAS: uso VLC Android (che accede alla NAS sia via DLNA che via SMB!) e li riproduco (con lo shuffle!) via cast o bluetooth.Quindi, ricapitoliamo: l'AXN10 ha funzionalità che normalmente non si trovano sui ricevitori bluetooth/cast, spacciati vergognosamente per streamer. Infatti è un vero streamer in quanto è autonomo ad accedere ai servizi via internet (eccetto spotify); ma se lo uso in tal modo, l'applicazione StreamMagic è talmente primordiale che mi fa venire il nervoso... Quindi per usarlo decentemente devo utilizzare le funzionalità di ricevitore bluetooth/cast. E allora cosa mi serve questo player di rete? Mi prendo un ricevitore bluetooth/cast con un DAC decente e spendo meno della metà...Adesso parliamo di un altro punto dolente... il bluetooth e il cast (wifi). A casa ho una rete cablata dove sono collegati i PC, la TV, la NAS, l'access point (un Netgear wax218 wifi6), il router e l'AXN10... giusto per dire che so come funziona una rete. La TV è una smart tv oled (sony). Se utilizzo il bluetooth o il cast sia da PC che da cell per riprodurre la musica sul TV, funziona tutto senza problemi. Se lo faccio utilizzando l'AXN10 ottengo questi risultati:- da smartphone (S22 ultra): funziona* sia cast che bluetooth- da PC: bluetooth funziona, ma con evidenti perdite di pacchetti; cast nativo di W10, non risulta possibile collegarsi; cast via VLC (o con audio-cast) funziona, ma con almeno 15 secondi di ritardo (il mio PC monta una scheda wifi6 Intel AX200 e quindi non è il PC il problema)*: con termine "funziona" intendo dire che è possibile riprodurre la musica... quando all'AXN10 gli sta bene: infatti, se con l'app StreamMagic passo da una sorgente all'altra per fare test, spesso l'AXN10 si impalla, l'app si collega e scollega di continuo, la riproduziona va a singhiozzo (va per 3 secondi poi si ferma per 5 e così avanti)Quindi, ulteriore recap: per usare l'AXN10, devo usare il bluetooth o cast e sono costretto ad usare un cell (no PC); e non devo giocare con l'app se no si incasina.Ah, ci sono ancora un paio di dettagli che non ho citato ma che mi lasciano perplesso. L'AXN10, essendo collegato in rete, ha un IP; ebbene se vado a vedere col browser quell'IP vedo la pagina di configurazione esattamente come la vedo con l'app StreamMagic (è un webmin). Fantastico. Manca però un dettaglio: con l'app posso (devo) selezionare una sorgente di ingresso (il cast, il bluetooth, spotify, Tidal, la NAS ecc). Via web non c'è questa possibilità (e non mi son messo a sniffare i pacchetti per capire come l'app commuta gli ingressi, ma sicuramente si potrà fare via web api). Quindi se non controllo l'AXN10 da Android/iOS, non posso usarlo. E anche questo è folle.Ultimo (non fondamentale): sarò all'antica... ma il mio ampli Marantz, per essere acceso, ha un bel tastone, grande grande; lo stesso dicasi per l'equalizzatore grafico EQ515. Possibile che l'AXN10 non può essere completamente spento ma va solo in standby? Che senso ha avere la "eco mode" (dove può essere acceso tramite app) o "standby mode" dove non può essere acceso se non manualmente premendo il tasto di accensione... ma il tasto è illuminato e circola sempre corrente? Per me non lo ha...
