I liked that I could divert the exhaust downward, but once my engine started overheating and boiling the gas in the carburetor, I took it off. I am waiting for the kit to rebuild my engine, now, and will not be putting this on , again . It's probably fine for other applications, but my tired 26 year old engine did not benefit from this item.

Okay, how does one write up a review for a simple piece of metal that is designed to deflect the exhaust gases and sound 90 degrees. It works and does send the sharp engine exhaust note any direction that you would want to send it. In my case I had the deflector pointed it down to help with trying to reduce the sharp crack exhaust noise on my generator. A bounce of the exhaust note to the ground does a pretty good job of suppressing it. Pointing the Exhaust deflector straight up would have done the same, but then it becomes a pretty good water scoop when it rains with the engine not running. Guess where the water goes..... I can say that the deflector does work, but don't expect it to help reduce the noise. It didn't seem to affect the engine with additional back pressure, but I did note a slightly higher temperature of exhaust muffler. The hot exhaust gases are blasting directly against a piece of metal that will capture the heat and transfer it back to the muffler.Be careful with the muffler deflector that you order to make sure that it is appropriately matched for your engine HP size and type and that it does fit the muffler can that you have. Research the muffler part number for your particular engine and match the deflector to your muffler. Again it will not reduce the exhaust noise that is coming from the muffler, but it does a pretty good job of reducing the sharp crack of the engine exhaust. If you want to reduce the engine exhaust noise then look for one of the Briggs and Stratton Super Lo-Tone mufflers. There again they have a limited capable of lowering the amount noise coming from the engine. Most of the noise generated from the Briggs and Stratton engines are from the motors themselves.
