The smell. I cannot get over that smell. I have left these in the sun for many hours. I have washed them with warm water and dishsoap, I have washed them with vinegar. And the smell just... won't.... stop.... It is slowly starting to fade, but I didn't want to put them on at first because the smell made me sick to my stomach.Ok, let's see if we can get past the smell. These are a thick fabric with a rubberized layer that seems to be working to help keep them upright. These will slide on over your socks with a strap going under your foot. It takes a little getting used to, but it's not so bad once you do. Sadly, I have not been able to fully test these as I injured my back two days before they arrived and have not been able to get back into the gym yet. But they do feel sturdy and I have no doubts that they will do their intended job.Provided you are ok with allowing these to off-gas before using them.

I’m 6ft/200lbs, and the XL size is a tight fit for me. If I had followed the size chart, I don’t think I would have been able to fit into a Large. The shin guards are pretty thick, which is good for protection, but at the same time, they are very warm. The inner side has some rubber anti-slip material that works but made my calves sweaty after only 5 minutes of trying them on without even working out!I have never found a good shin guard for deadlifting, but in my opinion, the material should not be this soft/neoprene. It should be something more durable and thinner, like very tough smooth plastic that is slippery enough on the outside so the bar can freely slide over the shins. These shin guards aren’t that; it’s basically like having long, tight neoprene socks.Overall, I’m happy with the product because at least it saves my shins from excessive scraping, but my search for a better deadlift shin guard continues.

I am a 5' 8" 170 lb male with thin(ish) calves, who wears a size 10 shoe. After reading the reviews of how small these run, I figured I should play it safe and order the large. Even with the large, I still could not pull these over my feet and position them properly without EXTREME effort. Forcing my foot through the opening was genuinely uncomfortable. Once I had them on and in position, I realized I had made a mistake because it was soon clear that getting them off wouldn't be much easier. Any sizing method that places my body type as an XL is absurd. If XL is as high as the sizing goes, I have to imagine this product isn't usable for anyone who actually has large feet/calves.

These cover the entire shin, from ankle to knee. The hard plastic front guards from dings to the shin, while the interior padding prevents chafing. You’re pretty much guaranteed to bang your legs at least a few times per deadlift routine if you’re using proper form (i.e., getting those feet in nice and close until they’re underneath the bar with your toes out past it). I tried it; not a single scrape or a bruise! An elastic strap fits unobtrusively under the sole of your foot to ensure the guard stays in place instead of creeping up your leg. I go outside the sock for all of this, but if it’s more comfortable for you underneath, I suppose that would work as well. I just prefer the extra cushion between my bare skin and the straps. All in all, 4.5/5. It fits pretty snugly, so order a touch bigger than you need and it will squeeze to form around your muscle.

When my shins are all scraped up, my deadlift workouts are minimized because I don't want to reopen the wounds. These shin guards are amazing! Now I can workout 100% without being concerned about bleeding shins. lol
