The 'Car Rear View Monitor, 7 inches LCD Display Backup Camera Mirror Monitor' arrived in a printed box' that also contained a manual (unfolded sheet), cable and remote.I would pre-warn anyone that is not familiar with automotive electrics, it might be best to have a professional install this monitor and make any necessary connections to the camera if already fitted. It is important to note this rear view monitor is not supplied with a camera. When I removed the monitor from its box I was surprised to find no protective film over the display which is almost always applied to displays. I also noted that the strain relief/grommet on the rear of the unit would go inside the case whilst handling which would allow the cable to move, this maybe putting strain on internal connections but I have no way of knowing.During my bench test of the rear view monitor, I found I quickly became familiar with the controls on the screen and could see no advantage to the remote. Image quality is decent, though a good connection and a good camera are important. What I did notice with the unit I received was that the when the two cables are joined using the small connector it was not a good fit, and easily came apart. A simple solution when installing would be to bind the two parts together with insulating tape.During a temporary installation on the car I encountered a number of issues, the first being the weight of the unit caused my rear-view mirror to drop, so adjustments needed to be made there. A secondary issue was that the ambient light of daytime necessitated the screen to be much brighter, which I then found became a distraction, and at night time the brightness needed to be turned down considerably. From the driver’s seat I also found that as his unit occupies a much greater area than the mirror it reduced my visibility out of the front windscreen, this maybe more of a factor for my car which is a lot older and does not have the expanse of windscreen that modern cars seem to have. From my perspective I will stick with my rear-view mirror and use an alternative solution for a reversing camera.

I purchased this rear view monitor to upgrade the visibility on an older car that doesn’t have a built-in reverse camera. The idea of a larger 7-inch display sounded ideal for clearer views while parking or reversing.Setting it up took a bit of time, as it required wiring it into the car's electrical system. If you're not familiar with this kind of work, you might need a bit of help or professional installation. Once installed, the monitor was easy to position on the dashboard, and it feels sturdy when mounted. The screen is bright and clear, providing a good view of what’s behind the car. It pairs well with most aftermarket rear cameras, and the display quality is decent enough for both daylight and nighttime use. However, in very bright sunlight, the screen can get a bit hard to see, so positioning it where glare is minimised helps. One small downside is that the monitor's buttons are not as intuitive as I’d like, and navigating settings can be a bit fiddly at first. Once you get used to it, it’s fine, but it could be improved with a more user-friendly design.Overall, this monitor is a good option for anyone wanting an affordable way to improve rear visibility. It’s functional, offers decent display quality, and makes reversing much less stressful, especially in tight spots.
