Der ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U LITE ist ein externer, schlanker DVD-Brenner mit 8-facher Brenngeschwindigkeit. Das äußere Erscheinungsbild des Brenners erinnert stark an die Optik eines geschliffenen Diamanten und ist somit absolut einzigartig.Außerdem ist der DVD-Brenner mit USB 2.0 und der E-Green-Technologie ausgestattet und ist somit das optimale optische Laufwerk.
Disc Encryption II
Sicherheit geht vor, egal ob im professionellen oder im privaten Bereich. Es ist wichtig, sensible Informationen vor unberechtigten Zugriffen zu schützen. Die Disc Encryption II-Funktion bietet eine doppelte Absicherung der zu schützenden Daten. Sie kann die gesamte Disk oder auch nur einzelne Teile davon mit einem Passwort schützen. Des Weiteren kann der Nutzer mit Disc Encryption II die Sichtbarkeit seiner Daten verbergen, so dass, selbst wenn die Disk in unbefugte Hände fällt, nicht erkennbar ist, welche Daten sich auf dieser befinden. Die Daten werden mit 128bit AES verschlüsselt. Nur berechtigte Benutzer mit dem richtigen Passwort erhalten Zugang zu den geschützten Daten.

If you are looking for a dvd player and a writer for your netbook-this is it! I have an asus netbook and since i love my netbook so much, i have never turned on my laptop in over few months now and since my camcorder and other stuff comes with a cd-rom to edit and what not-there were only two options i had, either to buy an external dvd drive or turn on my laptop-i chose the former. So basically i have used it to upload few new software to my netbook and it works like a pro. No complains. It is beautiful little addition but like other reviewers said-it attracts finger prints like nothing i have seen and since it is so beautiful to look at, it's always an effort trying to keep it as shiny as it came out of the box-didn't know my fingers were that sticky!

Nifty little drive.2 key points I need to make first:1) You CAN possibly run it from just one USB port, even though the directions advise using two. On my XP DELL PC it runs fine on one USB port, at least for reading - haven't tried burning yet which might take more power and require the second USB port.2) The ONLY strike against it is the USB cable is too short, as others have commented. It is barely over a foot long - 4 to 6 feet would be preferable to allow more flexibility in placement.PROS:1) pretty exterior, nice shiny black surface.2) small footprint - only about half an inch thich, hardly larger than a few DVDS stacked.3) simplicity of installation - all i had to do was plug in one USB cable - no software, no nothing. Didn't even get a "found new hardware" dialogue. BEAUTIFUL!4)price - i paid under $30 after the rebate, delivered.CONS:1) the disk tray is not power loading, but it is power locking. So it has to be plugged in to open it, but all it does is unlock when you press the eject button, you have to manually pull it open and closed. A small con to pay given all the PROS.2) AS noted earlier the USB cable is too short.3) I'd prefer if we had a choice in exterior drive colors (dark red OR pastel pink would be lovely, others might prefer gold, silver, blue - give us some CHOICE - why is APPLE the only company that gets it?)4) The drive runs a bit slower on the USB bus than a comparable onboard drive, due to the speed limitations of the USB bus. This is not a strike against this particular model, but will be an issue with any USB 2.0 drive. Overall a small price to pay unless you are looking to burn high volume in which case you will not want to go this route.Overall, this drive does a superb job of doing what it is supposed to do and thus deserves a 5 star rating.
