It's a fantastic product that works; I can't do more than it's outstanding, and I would repurchase it.

Okay, first the good. This reel is made well, seems to be good design, good tolerances, everything is tight, nothing jiggly or jinky, feels good, etc. At half the normal price during the Big Spring Sale this rod seemed like a steal! About the only thing negative I can say about the build is the spool bearings are pretty bad. Like so bad they don't even seem like bearings. When you try to spin them with your finger they don't continue spinning at all. Even just spinning the spool (with the brakes on zero and tension adjustment all the way out) it rotates maybe 5 or 6 full turns. The bearings just aren't good. The bad is that the reel is virtually uncastable. I originally tried it on two new rods that I also bought on Amazon that were 6'0" BFS ultralight casting rods, put a 3/32oz swimbait on it no matter how I setup the reel the combo was basically uncastable. Same when I moved up to 1/16oz and even at 1/8oz although the combo became castable the distance was truly pathetic. I then moved the reel over to my favorite 7'0" BFS ultralight casting rod, and the results were the same. The normal reel I use on the 7'0" rod is just a KastKing Zephyr BFS, so it's not like I'm comparing this reel's performance to a Shimano or Daiwa. The performance difference between the Anatono Sphinx BFS and KastKing Zephyr BFS reels is literally night and day. This reel makes the discount KastKing Zephyr BFS seem like a high-end BFS reel. The magnetic braking system just isn't good. To get any kind of distance (especially with lighter lures) you're going to have to basically turn the brakes off just manually brake it with your thumb on the spool. Even then with poorly performing bearings, you're not going to get any real distance and without any automatic brake system you're likely going to get a lot of backlashes. You can frequently find the KastKing Zephyr BFS for about the same regular price as this Anatono Sphinx here on Amazon. I would highly recommend buying the Zephyr over the Sphinx any/all/every day.

Haven't caught a bunch of fish on this yet but they ones I have caught the reel held up and even with the smaller fish it was a fun fight. Can't wait to see how it goes with a 2lb+ fish

The reel is super smooth, great casting, easy to dial in, and light. The drag could be better but it’s good enough to land fish with ease. I own several BFS reels and in smoothness I’ll put it up with my 24 Calcutta Conquest SE. This reel is that smooth and will cast light baits. I’m not using 1/32 oz 1/16 oz like the trend. I toss 1/8 oz up to 1/4 oz. If I need to throw a 1/16 oz beetle spin or hard bait it will. I play with all levels and cost off BFS reels. This one is a great buy though if you are starting out and want a ton of features.
