The GoodThe metal in this probe is all one solid piece, which is really nice. It is was convinced me to try this one. It makes it possible to force the probe into harder dirt, like the clay I have in my yard. Also, really nice, is that there is an opening on the end of the probe. This really helps in trying to blast your way deeper into the soil.It is strong and has a nice feel to it, and pushes 1/3 of the water straight down into the ground. So why not 5 stars? There are two reasons. Neither are fatal but both could be improved.First, the water going into the fertilizer cup is very little and weak. I use a water soluable fertilizer that instantly dissolves in water. But so little water is sent into the cup that it takes forever to flush out all the fertilizer. I understand that you don't want to dump all the fertilizer at once in the ground, but there has to be a happy medium. As it is, often the soil around a tree is soaked long before I can add the amount of fertilzer I wanted to add. So they just need to exchange the water in the cup more quickly.Secondly, and this is just personal opinion, while the metal part is strong, I wish the plastic parts had a higher, more durable quality. I worry that one good knock in the wrong spot will crack the plastic, especially with the cup, Now in all honesty, I have 7 fruit trees that I've watered each 3 times with this probe, and I havn't had any problems (beyond the water exchange in the cup). The plastic has worked fine and held up through 21 waterings. But I worry about its longevity. The bottom line is this really is a good probe and probably better than most. I recommend it. There are just a couple of items that I wish were better made or better designed that would earn the fifth star.

This Varomorus stainless steel deep root feeder is a seriously well-built tool that makes tree and shrub watering way more efficient. Made from solid stainless steel with clean welds and a polished finish, it’s tough, rust-resistant, and clearly built to last—this isn’t some flimsy garden gimmick. The 37-inch length with a solid, pointed tip lets you reach deep into the soil (up to 32 inches), delivering water exactly where it’s needed: to the roots, not just the surface. That means less runoff, less evaporation, and a whole lot more water conservation—up to 50% by their estimate, which is huge, especially in drought-prone areas. The brass hose connector fits standard garden hoses, and once connected, you just turn on the water to a light flow and drive the spike into the ground. It works well not just for watering but also for aerating compacted soil and even feeding with liquid nutrients if desired. The T-handle makes it easy to grip and maneuver, and overall, it feels like a serious tool for people who actually want their landscaping to thrive. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but for the quality and performance, it’s an excellent value.

This tool is a game changer! Instead of soaking the surface and spending a lot of $ and using a lot of water to eventually seep down, I can put the water where I want with pinpoint accuracy. I still water my plants and trees regularly, but after I started using this tool, I’ve cut back on the surface watering as I’m driving the roots to search deeper for water (especially younger trees). I’ve made PVC contraptions like this and use them when I plant, but having this tool to the mix has really made a difference for me. I have clay soil here in SE Texas which can be a pain to dig through, but with the water running and a little extra effort on my part, I’ve been able to use the tool effectively. The fertilizer cup works well and I’ve used it to add some liquid nutrients below ground- much nicer than having to dig or soak. Solid stainless steel, straightforward and easy to use. Set the water pressure to your liking and let the trees have a good long drink. No issues to report, but a lot of happy trees.

The shaft, handle, and hose input are all constructed of quality metal. It has a substantial feel and looks like it will last a very long time. The metal seems heavy enough to take on even tough soil conditions. However, my soil is loose and not a challenge to this device so I cannot directly comment on that aspect.Water is distributed via three outlets; one pointing straight down and two on either side at 90 degrees (parallel to the surface). If the handle is facing the tree there will be a stream toward the tree, one away from the tree, and one straight down.Although the main unit is well constructed, the attached feeder is rather flimsy. It is all plastic and does not appear of good quality, even for plastic. The brass input connected to the shaft rotates so it is easy to connect the hose directly. However, if you want to use the feeder it is more difficult because the plastic hose input does not rotate. Because the brass input rotates you should be able to turn the whole feeder to attach the hose but you cannot because it is blocked by the handle. What you need to do is disconnect the feeder so you can rotate it onto the hose then connect it back to the brass input. The feeder has a water on/off, which is very convenient. The container is very small, I believe 100 ml.There is no manual. The feeder has different settings but I was not sure what they do. One setting states feed but it is not clear which side of the dial it needs to be on to be activated. There are variations but I am not sure if they are increasing or decreasing. I had to use fertilizer in order to observe if the color was changing to determine if it was being used or not. I would have also liked to have some general instructions on how to judge depth. I did not even know these devices existed so some guidance on its use and applications would have been appreciated.I am rating with four stars. I am not considering the lack of a manual or the lack of information on its use and applications. That is not related to the actual device but more of in support of the item. It is not a five star item, IMO, because the feeder is not well made, has a very small container, and needs to be dealt with in order to connect a hose. However, that does not drop it to a three star rating because it is still functional.

This is a great tool that can be used for multiple purposes so it is a great value for your money. It can be used to soften ground before digging a hole for a tree or fence post. You can then use it for watering trees to make sure the roots of the tree don't stay at the surface and make the tree more susceptible to falling during storms. We have incredibly hard clay in our soil so it is nearly impossible to dig a hole or water a tree without the water standing on the surface of the ground. It is easy to use as the sharp end makes it simple to push even into tough ground. It also has multiple holes at the bottom so the water doesn't just shoot directly down but also to the sides. This makes it functional even better than ones that just have the bottom holes. We used the tool to plant several trees and we're impressed by the way it works.
