This solar pump fountain comes in a branded box. Inside are all the bits to assemble the pump including an instructions sheet. The parts listing nor the instructions mentions the 4 x clear straws you get - these are inserted and help to keep the pump centralised - see how easy was that to explain?It is almost ready for use, just choose the water effect you want. There is no on/off switch so keep out of the sun until it is in water. Depending on the sun, you can get a nice spray or a good bubble. It does need full sun otherwise the effect is disappointing. Simple to use, ideal for smaller containers, no electricity required and priced £17 at the time of this review

I liked the idea of a simple solar powered fountain and that's what you get here. Looking at other similar products, this model seems to be on a par in terms of size, pump power and build, however, there does appear to be cheaper alternatives available.The pump is supplied virtually ready-to-go apart from selecting a spray head and inserting the plastic side straws that help keep the unit positioned centrally.Performance-wise, it's a bit of a disappointment - this will be the same for all similar solar fountains - they require full sun to operate otherwise you'll just get a momentary gurgle every couple of seconds. When the sun does beat down, the fountain springs into life and is actually impressive, just make sure you have a sunny spot in which to position it.Maybe one day, the boffins will incorporate some kind of rechargeable battery into the floating design which could help fill in the gaps between the sunshine.3/5 - cheaper alternatives and requires full sun
